Borken Hood Latch Lever Empty
PostSubject: Borken Hood Latch Lever   Borken Hood Latch Lever Icon_minitimeTue Feb 26, 2013 10:20 am

Like most GM's, my Roady leaks. I'll add oil every Monday before I leave for work. Well this morning, I went to pop the hood and the lever had zero pressure and I looked and the cable connecting to the release lever had snapped off!!! GREAT... So my plan of attack is to pull the cable with a pair of vice grips to get the hood to pop to release the pressure and then to reattach the cable. It looks pretty frayed tho... so I dunno. Any suggestions would be helpful.

ALSO... ever since I owned the car the left turn signal wouldn't pop back in place and I know I can replace it by taking the steering wheel off etc but it was just a minor inconvenience. But TODAY I went around a corner and the steering wheel caught as I was going around a left turn and heard a piece of plastic snap and now there's a piece of plastic bouncing around inside and it will catch every time I go around a left corner. Now it's a really big inconvenience and a lot less safe!

Ahhh... old cars

I was able to get it popped with a pair of vice grips... but as to repairing it I'm still not sure.

Mark,

One of he Impala guys works for a dealership. He has one on ebay

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Caprice-Hood-Release-Cable-Assembly-94-96-Impala-SS-NIB-/390314035468?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5ae087890c&vxp=mtr

Dorman (Autozone & Advance Auto) makes replacement springs for the signal return. As far as the plastic breaking that might be the turn signal return cam (a guess) that works with the springs. I believe Dorman puts that part as well.

Be sure to document your correction.

Tim

So I bought one today, anyone replace one of these yet? My plan of attack is to use the old one as a snake and tape the new one to the broken end and then just pull it through... I'm hoping that works... we will see.
