| I didn't want to see the new movie...saw the original in the theater....yes I'm old. But read on another forum that a blue TBI Roady wagon plays a big part in the new movie. Wonder if it plays the role of Patrick Swayze's C-10 stepside in the original film...?
Now I want to see it....arrgh...wonder if it's at Redbox yet....

| March 5 is the dvd release date. My kids have been asking to see this since they watched the old one on Netfix. I too would like to watch it. I will have to keep an eye peeled for the wagon. Kind of like the episode of walking dead that had a white Roady abandoned on the interstate where they stop and start scavenging parts, gas, clothes and meds. I thought it was cool. | |

50s and early/young 60s fool! I know I'm not THAT old, but the amount of things..firsts..and "before" that I remember, just seems to keep growing. Lily, Joseph and Johnathan had never seen a record player before. I had to show them how it worked...they were AMAZED. I can remember a time before home video games, before we had cable tv, and clearly remember when we got our first microwave oven and VCR. My first TV was black-and-white, and had tubes that had to warm up before it would come on. I remember looking through the back to see the tubes. When you shut it off the screen would shrink to a small dot and then slowly fade out..... The Apple computer was big when I was a little kid, but my father never bought a home computer until I'd moved away to college. He just never saw the point. I made cassette tapes on my stereo listening to American Top 40 on Sunday mornings. I remember getting my first CD player when I was 13 (with new George Harrison and Tom Petty CD's...thanks Dad). I could change a tire or fix a chain on my bike by 1st grade (Lily, Joseph and Johnathan still can't do that). I remember my father not trusting front-drive cars when they came out, and when our neighbors traded their '76 Century for a 1982 VW Jetta, Dad said that was un-American.... I remember big video arcades at the mall. Begging for quarters.... There were no cell phones, no internet, no e-mail, and the idea of something like in-home Netflix movies would have blown my mind. I remember my roomate in college had a computer and I could not understand why you would want to type a "e-mail" message to someone when you could just pick up the phone and talk directly...(HA!). Yes I watched too much tv as a kid (all 32 channels when we got cable), but I also rode bikes, played in creeks, built forts, and did not want to come in the house until the steetlights came on. I can't get my current batch of kids off their computers and out of the house... Lots more, but that's my rant for the morning. -Mike

| Oh and I would have KILLED for a DVD player in our car on big family road trips as a kid. That would have been AMAZING. Instead I fought with my brother, and we all listened to my Dad's Dr. Hook and Elton John cassette tapes. Now I hate in-car DVD's because all the kids want to do is watch movies and I want them to look out the windows and SEE things when we go on the road trips. Hahahaha... | |

I Loved going to the arcades in the mall. Oh and I still wanted to stay outside even after the streetlights came on. Mom would get so mad when I would come running in well past it getting dark out. I think I still have a few tender spots on the rump from those evening spankings.

Have you put them in front of a rotary dial phone and asked them to place a call? We did that with a neighbor's kid years ago and it was a hoot watching him press the numbers through the holes in the dial. Mind you, this was the same kid who forgot his toothbrush once during a sleep over party. My wife gave him one and he came to us saying it didn't work. Huh? We asked him to show us why so he held it to his teeth in the mirror and stood there. Turns out, he always had an electric tooth brush so he wasn't up on the manual brushing action required with a regular tooth brush.
