| howdy guys. my name is mark and i have a pair of Caprice wagons. an 85 and an 86 to be exact. the 86 is my backup car for whenever my Jeep (wifes daily) and/or my Datsun (my daily) decides to break on me. i have been driving it daily for the last few weeks after getting the front brakes done and shes running good. my 85 on the other hand, is hurt bad. motor and rear axle seized and the interior is partially parted for the 86. someday i will be rebuilding the 85 though into a subtle yet wicked street fighter. here are the specs on the 85..... 305 5.0L Chevrolet V8 700R4 automatic (i think. havent run the codes yet) 8 passenger ex Hertz rental car bought in 86 from hertz by the last owner. i bought 2 years ago or so. base level interior perfect for a 9C1 guage swap no power ANYTHING. aftermarket cruise AC and hydroboost brakes (YUCK!!!!) future plans... big block power Impala SS 5 stars new paint restored interior heres some pics of it.... and here are some specs on the 86. its in MUCH better shape... 5.0L 307 Oldsmobile V8 Rochester Quadrajet E4ME carb 200R4 automatic (replaced some years ago with a Jasper unit) 2.53:1 rear diff (makes for a gutless wonder) power windows, locks and front seats AC Cruise NON Hydroboost brakes (thank god) upper level cluster with guages instead of idiot lights Pioneer CD player (not installed the way i like but it works.) power antenna 8 passenger seating and the dash pad out of the 85. future plans 350 Olds or chevy if i can get matching 4spd trans MINOR rust repair new windsheild better wheels (Impala SS 5 stars or 15" 100 spoke Chrome and Gold Daytons with properly fitting tires) tinted windows stereo upgrades here are some pics of that as well..... hope ya lik emy intro. i know forum people like pictures | |

| Am I the only one who chuckled at the fact that the one that "is in much better shape" led off with a pic of the hood up??? Nice boxies. Well, one of them, anyways. Welcome aboard. I got a couple cans of Rustoleum that'll fix the 85. | |

| Welcome Mark
Glad you made it over here, bunch of great guys over here. I tried twice in the last year to pick up a boxy wagon, but didn't work either time.
Mark, keep your story as we have a "Wagon of the Month" with a little story and a few pictures.

| Welcome Mark. Always had a soft spot for the boxys but prefer the creature comforts of power everything. Don't know what your problem is with the hydroboost. Have used them for years and never had one go bad. Had to flush a few and some of them needed a little massaging for a conversion, but all in all I have had good luck with them. Bill | |

Bill my 86 is power EVERYTHING. i love it. the only thing i dont have is power mirrors but the adjusters are within easy reach. as for the hydroboost, the 86 had it replaced 3 times in a year by a GM Master tech and at the price they want for a new one, its cheaper to convert. plus i have had the PS pump die on a truck with hydroboost. not fun. i am just not a fan of it. - phantom 309 wrote:

Nick nope factory gassers. they used it in both cars and trucks but not necessarily diesels. the newer setups are better but i just dont like em. my passat has a setup like that as well but its got ABS. | |
