| I was bored today,. so i fired up the little daycab freightliner and hooked onto the taisso trailer,. went to the neighbours, and unloaded one of the wagons,. So i,m back to driving my base model wagon with the manual trans,. it doesn't take long to pick the gears tho,. The 847 cammed, big compression, lt4 headed 383 is quite fun,..I built the motor with a light crank, short rods, light pistons and pins, it loves to rev,.!! (the 4:88's help too,. ) I'll be putting in the proper pilot bushing in the next day or so,.(eagle bored the hole too large so it needs a bigger bushing) and I,m going to try the aluminum flywheel,. I also need to raise the trans a little too, and work on driveline angle,.car vibrates a bit over 100mph,. I kept my foot out of it, and shifted early, JaySS has a friend scott that has sent me a tune for the car,.i just need to get a new cable to download it,. Might even get to the fest this year,.mebbe kick a couple of ass's...... T56 wagonNick | |

| pulled the trans today ,. and swapped in the correct pilot bushing,. I still had to mess with it,. it was .015 too big,.aaaargh! so i polished it on the lathe till i was happy,. and took .002 out of the centre so it was a nice fit on the trans,. I used the grease trick to remove the one in there,.i had tried to knurl it and i,d staked it,. to try and swell it up tighter in the crank,.it actually looked like i,d done a fair job,. no evidence of it turning,. but not many miles either,. pack the hole with grease,. use a bolt wrapped in a shop rag, and whack it with a hammer,. hydraulics force the bushing out ,. I had to make up a pilot tool to do the clutch re-install i wrapped the shaft with some black electrical tape to increase the diameter, to keep the clutch disc centered added the aluminum neutral balance spec flywheel too,. everything sat there nice while i torqued it down,. i finally remembered where i put my fancy driveshaft too,. Now i have the dreaded lt1 airlocked clutch,. need to bleed the Bastid,. aaargh! Nick

| so its not the hydraulics,. I took the trans out again today,. seems like the fork won't catch on to the clutch right or something,.i put it back in all seemed good,.and then,... The clutch is making a wierd noise now and slipping like crazy,.
I loaded a free tune into the car,. the motor is rev happy bounces of the limiter real quick, and seems strong,.but stalls all the time,. doesn't want to idle,. check engine light on right away,. Looks like i must have screwed something up somewhere,.
I,m totally sick of these LT1 cars,.UNLESS ITS BONE STOCK,.
i going to buy something thats already fast with no aggravation,.these obd1 lt1 rats are a pita,.
Nick

| Plug the MAF back in? Bummer about the clutch. You sure that was brake clean you sprayed on the flywheel and not PB Blaster? | |

| over the weekend i re-n re-d the trans a total of 5 separate times,. the problems were, my lack of experience with pull clutches ,. spec clutch has a square style throwout bearing, because i didn't have the square lined up properly, i managed to get the retaining clip bent down on one side on the fork and the fork slipped off the bearing one time,.took a piece out of the bellhousing, and was making a squealing grinding noise as it was getting pushed up against the pressure plate,. the fork i was using was worn out so with the thicker aluminum flywheel it wasn't releasing completely,. and the fancy spec clutch was hanging up sometimes,. SO,.... i migged some material onto the fork fingers and ground them into shape,. swapped the fancy blue spec clutch for a stocker,. and my learning curve for pull clutches has flattened out somewhat nowand my frustration level has subsided considerably,.,. You get what you pay for,.all the parts and pieces i have are used,. Now the car will go into gear very easily,. which is something i always had a little difficulty with unless the pedal was squashed into the carpet,.(amazing what building up the fork fingers back to spec accomplished...duh) shifts like its supposed to, (duh2) The times for re-re certainly got quicker,.the last time was about 50 mins from the time it rolled on the hoist till the time the clutch was on the floor,. Now i have to have a look at the stalling issue which is probably (maybe, hopefully) a stuck IAC,. Then, to work on the check engine light,.after i scrounge up a cable from somewhere,. Nick | |
