my wagon was 354000 miles on it and its the 305 motor. im wanting to upgrade to a bigger motor. i found some lt1 motors that are complete on ebay for around 1000 bucks. would that be the way to go. im not really looking to build a real high performance motor just to add some goodies. ill probably will be buying 2 of these motors cuz i have a nissan truck that i want a built motor for .

I'd stick with the original set up for simplicitys sake IMO. Just upgrade to a 350 ci, or 383 for that matter. The tbi set up may not be as "cool" as the LT1s mpfi, but it's dead reliable, cheap, and simple to fix if somthing goes wrong. Get a 350 tbi long block, 350 injectors, computer, h.p. cam, tb spacer, and low restriction exhaust and that wagon will wake right up. There are after market intakes to put '96-'02 sb vortec heads on tbi engines which are good, relatively cheap upgrades. Edelbrock has a kit to convert tbi to mpfi that a former co-worker of mine has (or had) on his '93 or '94 350 SS C1500 p/u, and that truck moved when he did that conversion along with a cam change. I've seen the Edelbrock set ups pop up on ebay once and a while for $300-500. As for the Nissan, trade it for a Chevy. Ha ha

Good Luck, and have fun with it.

Mike

For $1000, you can find another complete, roadworthy 305 wagon with half your mileage on it. If you really want to do the swap, stick in a TBI 350.

from as many post ive read over the years they say to sell the old car and buy a lt1 car,350 are good up grades, but still limited with tbi, also tuning which is most critical is harder than hard to do with a tbi obd 1, they make a programmable computer for these cars but im not sure how it all works if it a stand alone or ties into this exsisting one dont know

i was thinking the lt1 out of an impala would be a simple swap. as far as selling and buying another wagon that would be easy but theres already a lot of work done to this wagon. i want something thats pretty much a drop in affair. i use my car as a daily and dont wanna have it done for a long time.
