is it possible to install a crank kit with the engine still in the car or anyone know of a good replacement engine for sale for a z1993 roadie with a 5.7?

Iff the cranks not scored it,s possible to roll bearings,..

In my (usually not that humble) opinion, for the amount of extra headache you are creating by trying not to pull it, just pull it and be done with it. Good luck holding a forty lb crank in place while you try to secure the caps.

Is the cross member in the way of dropping the oil pan to get to the crank and bearings? (yes, it is). So you'll need to lift the engine anyway to get to it. Got a lift or are you going to lie on your back to do this?

The ease of working on it afterward when it's pulled out will pay off in the long run.

You should pull the engine. It will actually be less work. Think accessibility. Make sure you put rubber tubing on the connecting rod bolts, so you do not accidentally score the journals.
