This is on the DS rear of my '95 Roadmaster wagon a.k.a. "The Snail" because of its body's likeness to a carapace and also the rate at which I am able to make progress on it.
I am installing new progressive rate springs and rubber insulators. The directions for the springs indicate placing the coils that are closer together at the top (check) and orienting the "tail" of the bottom coil so that it points parallel to the axle housing, which I did.
The FSM for the car indicates orienting the upper "tail" so that it specifically faces the left side of the car.
I am wondering whether this left/right facing is important, and also whether the bottom portion of the spring looks appropriately seated? The top of the spring is in its pocket, and the front portion of the bottom part of the spring is wrapped around its retainer. On the back side you can see that the spring looks sort of...well I dunno, it just looks like it isn't seated right. But, I have never done rear springs before.
Back side of the spring
In this shot you can see the back side of the spring and also the bottom shock mount; the new shock is installed and the axle was raised enough to install the new bottom bolt.
