PostSubject: lug nuts for buick turbines   lug nuts for buick turbines Icon_minitimeFri Nov 29, 2013 6:25 pm

hey guys,
my mechanic went to install my turbines today and we found out that the lugs I bought off amazon that supposedly worked won't work. The taper is too steep and they are not wide enough. Does anyone here know what size I'd need?
FWIW These are the ones I bought. Even though they dont fit, they are very very nice quality. I will be sending them back and ordering ones in a different size as soon as I figure out what size I need.

You need a bulge seat lug nut. The ones you have are for steel wheels. 1/2" for your old stuff, M12x1.5 for the new stuff.

If you have covers for the nuts, regular tapered seat nuts for the Impala will work,

Jay, would something like these work?

Fred, I have not had good luck finding (non corvette) centers for these. I have one buick center that covers just the hole in the center.

Just to chime in here, when I installed the turbines on my '89 OCC I bought a set of lug nuts with washers from Discount Tire.    Was told these were the kind needed, since the wheel design requires a flat washer to sit on the front, and the original one-piece lugs are HARD to find now.

These worked GREAT and looked correct too.

X2 on what Mike used. The lug nuts for the Buick turbine wheels are different than your typical GM car tapered nut.

after looking at my rims, it appears I have 2 that take lugs like what Mike posted (that have dark grey inserts) in the last post and 4 that take bulge nuts (very light grey inserts). The light greys are what I want to mount.

Good pics. Mine are like the first ones, conical bulge nuts.

I have a set for my work in progress 95 RMW black/maroon WB4. Got the Vette caps, with the proper Buick center emblems. I'll shoot you a pic, you will want them...

Hello, new user here, and proud owner of an 87 Electra. I'm missing one of the center caps for my turbine wheels, and my extensive EXTENSIVE searching led me to your post - turbine wheels and all, looking very VERY sharp with different CC's installed. I'd say it looks better the way you did it than what I was trying to do, replace my one missing CC with the original which is hard HARD to find.

Well, long story short, I'm wondering what caps you used. That would be great to know. Does just about any CC of that form factor for GM fit or are their special ones?

Those are 77-81ish Corvette center caps. They are available in all chrome, or black and chrome.

Buy the aftermarket ones without the Vette centers and save money (to spend on Buick emblems)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Set-of-4-78-82-Corvette-wheel-center-caps-Aftermarket-/201553375089?fits=Year%3A1980%7CModel%3ACorvette&hash=item2eed846f71:g:ASgAAOSwiylW~tWo&vxp=mtr

For interested parties, my turbines (with center caps and emblems) are for sale. I'll post an ad...

Very Nice! Thank you. I can have a printed vynil buick emblem made for that and... shoot, that will look like, dang near factory except from a purist's eye. Good show.
