PostSubject: Roof Envy No More!   Roof Envy No More! Icon_minitimeTue Mar 11, 2014 10:16 pm

So, not all of you may know that I sold my Silver 91 Caprice, a couple years ago in order to finance a brief and unpleasant foray into the exciting world of poorly vetted Fleetwoods.  I stipulate that the 91 was a nice car, and that I should not have sold it.  Such is life, and it is too short to cry over unfortunately sold vehicles.

Following the "I-Bought-a-Fleetwood-in-the-Rain-Without-Really-Inspecting-it" debacle, my wife forbid me from buying any further B/D-Bodies.  She informed me that if I wanted a project car, it had to be a "real classic," as in old.

Since I enjoy being married, and my wife is rather frightening, I dutifully began searching for a "real classic."  I quickly realized that this is quite a chore when your budget is under $2,000.  Eventually, I found a 1966 Delta 88 Convertible.  Although I am unsure about it's status as a bonafide classic, I can assure you that this thing was OLD!  But I thought what the heck, at least it's a B-Body, and having a convertible could be fun, right?  Wrong.  This thing had more rust than the titanic, more holes than a window screen and more mouse droppings than…well a mouse toilet!  You'd work on dealing with some rust, and you'd find more rust.  Under that rust, there was more rust!  The thing was a nightmare. I soon realized I had bitten off much more than I could chew.  So on CL it went.  And there it stayed.  Until some loony bought it for parts.

I lost a lot of money on the Olds, but recovered enough to buy a 93 Roadmaster Sedan.  It was LAB, and was destined to be a carbon copy of my Slammed 94 LAB RMS.  Not a week after taking possession of it however, our Trailbazer EXT was hit head-on by a gentleman who had neglected to purchase insurance.  It was a total loss, and as it had over 250,000 miles on it, we, of course, did not have full coverage.  So now we are left without a vehicle that can seat our whole family!  My wife wants to get a loan and buy a Rendezvous or something, and I see the opportunity!  Me: "Honey, you know I could sell the Roadmaster and buy something that will seat us all...." Wife: "We are NOT getting a wagon!!"  Ah, but the seed was planted.  The RMS was quietly sold, and the wagon hunt begins.  As I was in the process of scouring the entire midwest region for 1500 dollar wagons (No mean feat in the thick of tax time,) I remember that I had looked at a wagon last year locally, and since the owner worked less than a block from my house, I knew he still had it.  I called him and asked if the vehicle was still for sale, and lo and behold it was!  the very next day I picked it up and brought it home.

The wagon is a 91 (Late: Built April 1991) Caprice Base, high option for a base model, with Power Windows and a power driver seat.  It was purchased 8 years ago from a local dealership when it had less than 50,000 miles on it.  It has been maintained by my mechanic, who is a good friend of the P.O., and is very clean for a lifetime Wisconsin car.  152,000 on a stock 305, with a newer transmission.  Black Sapphire Metallic over Blue Burlap Interior, with nice tint and truck rally’s and caps.  Plans include hunting down a high idle, cleaning, more cleaning, 235/75/15 White Walls, and more cleaning.  Oh and removal of the god-awful trailer hitch.

So without further adieu, I present to you, JewRide 14-or-15.0, the blue whale, the wagoniest wagon in Monroe, well you get the idea:

Day I picked it up:

Interior needs cleaning bad, but is very solid and intact for a car that spent most of it's life on a farm:

Orange Needles on a 91?  I guess they ran out of white

Shhhhh, a 1966 Delta 88 Convertible is a B-Body...

Nice Caprice wagon, it needs about 45 more cubic inches!

Update: So I just noticed it's been quite some time since I posted anything on here.  I've done very little to the wagon, as my project funds were derailed by needing to have the frame almost completed rebuilt with angle iron and flat stock.  I did however, get a set of whitewalls (Suntek Brand, from a shop that uses ATD Online, $72 each.)  I also painted my wheels with gold hammered paint, and added a matching gold pinstripe.
