Shipping parts to Canada? Found this

From what I can gather.....
If you live in Canada and need a part shipped to you, sometimes the shipping can cost more than the actual part.
This website allows you to ship to their address which is just across the border in US. You can then come and pick up the part at your convenience for a small fee.

I am not sure if anybody already knows about this, but thought I would toss that out to you guys.

A friend near the border uses them. Not only can it be significantly cheaper, if have the address added as a confirmed delivery address with eBay and/or your credit card, you can order stuff from vendors that don't ship to Canada.

That said, with the Canuk buck back in the toilet, buying from the US is getting expensive.

I have sent parts to FEDEX offices, and Greyhound depots on the US side of the border for pickup by Canadians. You can send smaller parts to "general delivery" at US Post Offices for pickup. Greyhound will call the buyer when the package arrives. I do not use UPS, but I believe you do the same thing with them.

With the tracking number, the buyer can determine when the package arrives, and pick it up in a timely manner.

Many vendors will not ship to unconfirmed addresses because of fraud. If the seller pays by reportedly stolen CC # (or Paypal, or whatever) and the vendor ships to an address that is not registered with that payment method, the CC company will reverse the payment and the vendor has no recourse. If the shipping address is on file and the package was sent via a trackable method, the vendor is protected from claims from fraudulent buyers.

(Note that I am referring to "arms length" transactions. I would hope nothing like that would ever occur here. Most of us don't really "know" each other, but we at least have a common history with each other.)

The website i mentioned above will also take auto deliveries.
Someone mentioned to me that it was something like a $150 fee plus $5 a day storage cost....
That $150 was a guess. Either way, I would figure it would be cheaper than having it delivered all the way to your door step. That is...if you can trailer it home from the border.

I live close to Toronto and ordered from Summit, ebay and much more - to a place in Niagara Falls, NY right by the 1st exit past the Lewiston bridge in the US, WITTMER ROAD, they're called US ADDRESS and I think their website is www.usaddressinc.com
It's free to sign up, then you get a US address and just have it shipped to your name at their assigned address. All it costs is $5 per package and they store it for a week (but are very lenient). Your second/third/...week costs an extra 3 bucks or so per package, but as I said, as long as you email them and keep them updated, they won't give you a hard time. I usually try to order everything I need around 2 weeks before I plan to cross the border, then I just pickup my boxes at their office (looks like a 4 car garage) and dispose of any cardbord boxes in the rear of the building where they have a large bin.
If it's smaller items, I never really declare anything at the border. Used items are never a problem in general. But let's say you try to cross the border with a brand new suncoast hood, you'd have to fill out a form and declare at the crossing. I never got checked at the border crossing, but I always show up with kids and wife and tell them some random stories about a random convention or museum or similar. If you show up with your buddy and both wearing black sunglasses in an expensive car, chances are, they'll pull you over and find something they can screw you with...
