Quick disconet fuel line fittings

So.... Doing a fuel pump...again.... Cant get one of the fittings to release. The middle one released no problem, when you are under the car looking up, the one on your right I cant get to release. Are they both the same size? Do I need a smaller release tool to slide in?

It's been probably 8 years since I have done that, and I very well could be wrong, but I believe they are two different sizes. I'm sure someone will be along to agree with me or correct me.

They are different sizes. The return is smaller. If it has the white plastic clips (mine does), you have to push in on the exposed ends, and slide the hose off of the clip. If it has the metal clips, you need a tool. If you got one off, I am assuming that they are the white plastic clips. Sometimes they are reall buggers to get off. You may have some success if you push the lines toward each other before pushing the plastic ends in. The plastic may have a small groove in it, and will not release under tension. The 91-93 heater core hoses have similar "quick release" clips on them.

These are the ones that have the "inside" clips. you need to put the tool on the tube and slide it down inside the fitting to expand the metal tabs away from the lip on the tube. I went to the parts store and picked up a metal one, the other one is plastic. Hoping to be able to tap on the metal on to drive it in there to expand those tabs.

Try twisting them to get the O-ring to loosen on the line.

I've always managed to get needle nose pliers to work for me...but I do have a set of the metal ones, they work too.

The metal tang one, you have to pull the fitting back (farther on) the line and then push the tool in for it to release. Sometimes they do get stuck however. I had no luck however and I just pulled the sender out of the tank with the lines still attached.

Got it done. Went to the parts store and bought a metal sissor type rather than the round plastic disc type and tapped and tapped with a hammer, and twisted the fitting some and it finally popped off.
