Ok so yesterday I spent most of it searching for those minor dings and rust issues that get overlooked. Also took the time to take bumper off and start doing some body work. Anything with and "X" on it is getting replaced anything with a circle is obviously the rusted and dented areas.
Side note: I find working by myself I get interrupted so much by customers coming in for quotes and just to BS.

This hood is going to be a spare and he asked me to fix it and paint it to match if he ever needed it. He brought a Cowl Hood for me to put on it.

It looks like you have a lot of work ahead of you. Are you shaving the roof?
Is that a GSX under the plastic?
A Roadmaster wagon with the Saturn yellow/black strip paint scheme would be pretty sweet.

Or how about a Saturn yellow wagon with a woodgrain GSX stripe?

Mark I've been painting cars 32 years. Basically a hobby that turned into a business.
Ok so I decided to take a few flaws out of the front fenders:
Found another rust spot:
Ok here's a peek at the rear bumper mod.

80 grit on the grinder to take off the paint:

How do you deal with this type of rust spot? I have two of them and want to prevent them from getting any worse. I plan on taking the roof rack off and using some kind of silicon sealant on all the screws when re-attaching. But I don't know how to tackle the rust. Can I sand it and paint it with that stop rust paint and be safe? I really don't have the funds to re-paint her big back end let alone her whole body.
Any pointers would be much appreciated.

Scoffman: I will be sandblasting this area to remove all top surface rust then applying an etch prime then 2k Primer and any or all pits will be filled in over the primer.

Jerrod, have you looked into the SEM version of the TPO plastic? It is equal to 3M's 05887, but costs half as much. I have the TPO out in the van, but it is raining HEAVILY right now. I'll get the part number in the morning. (the mixing tips do not interchange as one screws on and the other uses a screw cap...)
For those that care... that plastic is used to repair bumpers. It is HUGELY better than Bondo as this IS bumper material and will not crack, peel, or fall off over time.

Thanks for the info on the plastic repair products - for rust (in my Michigan years) I swear by POR 15 even used it on my wagons sole rust spot and also in the spare tire area to prevent future rust. I've used it before with 15 years of no rust returning... Jeff

Honestly I haven't. I have the 3M set up and it's worked so good that I never searched further. Thanks for the info.

We did the same thing to my rear bumper. Shaved the trim holes and also the random line that's below that. I think it looks awesome:
Just seeing this thread now for the 1st time. Awesome work!! Can't wait to see the finished product.
You know, if you had not taken pictures of those rust areas...I would have argued with you that the car had none
Oh and as much as I appreciate the Orange on Nick's RMW...I'm going to stay with the OEM color. Can't wait to see it with the SS trim, and SLP hood.

Ok Last week was a wash I was so sick I didn't get much done but here is where it is as of yesterday. The rear quarter damage to the driver side was way worse than I expected. Had lots of hammer and dolly work to straighten it but hey it turned out sweet. Also had to use my stud gun to pull the damage out that was in front of the gas cap opening.
in This picture you can see how the panel is bowed upward due to the damage just below it.
The rear door work...

I notice you skin the whole panel with filler do you find it easier to block the panel that way rather than filling the depression area only? Nice work - I have to redo some areas on my car my painter was bodywork challenged. Jeff

Yes filling the whole panel makes it easier to straighten, been doing it this way for years. That's just me, but hey when the jobs done the final product will be really nice.

Whoa why do you remove all that material? to get behind the panels? Was that whole panel/area shot?Very interesting to see. Could you explain a little more about why you take these steps?

Other than the obvious damage to the mangled front section of the quarter panel,.. the rest of the upper quarter was damaged like the other side. So the easiest thing to do is to replace quarter as shown. Also rear quarter glass on both sides are being replaced since the previous owner glued shut both rear little windows.

Got a little paint on the doors.
And got both the rear glass out, and NO I didn't get them out without breaking.

Impressive work! Any pics of the inside of the door jamb where the door latch is? The sheet metal around the latch on mine is cracked, just wondering how it attaches behind there.

Ok so I haven't posted in awhile but things here have not been in my favor work wise.
Well since I have to remove quarter from donor car I had to remove some extra material before starting. Unbelievable how much foam they put behind these D pillars.
C pillar
Also found more rust behind glass. Glad we took it out. I wired brushed the whole window surround to clean off old urethane and flaky paint.

The toughest,... and I do mean the toughest part of the job is done. The many hours, and I mean, many hours, this quarter panel is finally off. The seam sealer was just as tough cut as the drilling of spot welds.
