| I'd rather not haul the entire rear. Can I pull the parts from the wheel side? Any gotchas to look out for? | |

| I know nothing about whether you can or can't; but for whatever it's worth, I remember one guy who posted on the wagon forum. He was new and introduced himself and his wagon. One of the things he did was put a 9C1 complete rearend in his wagon. I remember him saying he didn't know you couldn't do it, until he had it done. Someone else may remember him.

| You can swap the sedan rear into the wagon, but it's not as wide, so the wheel fitment changes (you can run wider this way), and rear suspension geometry isn't IDEAL with the setup, but it works. You can also weld and move the spring perches, from what I read.
nhgonzo has a sedan rear in the Shaved Woody on this forum. |

| My biggest beef with the sedan rear swap is the fact that rear is lighter duty. The sedan uses smaller axles and bearings. The Wagon rear is basically a pick up truck rear end. The Wagon has a lot more weight on the back side compared to a Sedan.
I would rather modify the sedan backing plate. Even better, just stick with the huge drum brakes that work just fine.
I beat the crap out of my wagon, use it to haul stuff, etc. The stouter it stays, the better. | |

| Hah, well, I guess it'll be the huge drum brakes for me! Thanks for the clarification, glad I didn't bring that thing home. | |

| The sedan disk rear is the same rear as the 91-96 wagon except it is about 2 inches narrower. There is a lighter duty rear, but it only came with small drum brakes. Navy Lifer on impalassforum.com did a rear disk conversion kit, and you still may be able to get the parts. The bias from the proportioning valve is light toward the rear, so your rear brakes are not working very much anyway. You should do the stealth brake mod to increase the rear bias either way. | |

| For the rest of us, Fred, what's a stealth brake mod? I'm unfamiliar with it. | |

Anyone know if the SS/9c1 axles are the same as the caprice?I have all the parts needed to rebuild my brakes including a set of braided stainless lines. The original lines are almost 25 years old so they get replaced too. |

| SS and 9C1 axles are not the same. 9C1s are narrower. | |

| The SS axle is the same as the wagon but narrower. The 9C1 axles are the same as the wagon axle but narrower still. The I believe the Caprice sedan with the GM8, or GM9 has the lighter duty axle (2.56 gear ratio). All wagons have the heavy duty axle. | |
