Hi guys,
I know that there are some excellent disk brake kits being made with parts from Caddy's and others Chevy's. However, parts are not plentyfull around here and thats why i'm looking around for a "plug and play" disk brake. One where i can just change the brakes and not put on that cheap Chinese sh*t. (i already did two disk brake swaps on the 93 Caprice and the result is warping brakes two times after 2000 mi) I have found EBC disk brakes (part nr GD 7078 3GD) and it says that they are for the 93 Caprice.
I know that the ABS ring of the 93 Caprice is different than normal ABS rings (i believe 32 tooth) I'm wondering if this is the right disk brake for my Caprice. Anyone here used these before, and of course any advise to go this way or not.
Keep in mind that i can't go to a local " pick and pull" these are only filled with European cars.

Pete

I believe there are some write-ups on swaps using Mercedes brakes on the impalassforum.com. I am assuming your are referring to the rears, although I believe someone did the fronts as well. I do not know if they tried to maintain the ABS. For the fronts, we are stuck with Chinese disks here in the US. Some people have given up on the ABS. I personally can out-brake the ABS manually. The ABS on the 91-94s is pretty crappy to begin with. I disabled mine and took the bulb out of my cluster. I have not removed the parts, because I do not have the ABS delete brake lines. I do not miss them one bit.

The fact that the yards are lacking in US vehicles is interesting. The yards here have about a third of the total cars in the foreign section. They are mostly Japanese, but a fair amount are European.

I am curious Fred about the 95-96 ABS systems being different than the 91 thru 94?Is there any and if so what?

The 95-96 modules are totally different from the 91-94s. The brake lines and wiring are different, as well as the mounting bracket. The wiring for the 95-96 comes from the engine harness and attaches to the unit on top with a large connector. The 91-94 wiring comes from the fender harness, and connects with an internal connector. I just pulled a system from a 96 for someone, and shipped it to him. Someone removed it from his car, and he wants to reinstall it. He lives in the snowy north, and it may be good for him. Package weight was 17#.

I have not driven a 95-96, and used the antilocks, but I do know that I do not like the 91-94 antilocks. I have disconnected them on my 91, and do not miss them. I may disconnect them in my 92 as well.
