OK, I got the backspacing figured out, but I'm curious if anyone has put any 17X8 rims on their RMW? I'm looking at some American Racing Torque Thrust Blacks, with 0 offset, but they're 17X8. To keep the speedometer accurate, I would have to run 235/60R17's. Seeing as how the stock rims are 15X7, will the extra inch of rim hurt anything? The tires would only be .39 inch wider, so I don't see any issues there. The stock 15X7's have a 3.75" backspace, and are -6mm offset. I would have to find out what the backspace would be on the 17" rims.
But, does anyone see a problem with doing this? I'm just worried about the 'fender skirts' on the wagon.
As an edit to this, I called this online store, and he said that the backspace for those 17" rims is 4.75". Is that extra inch of backspace going to hurt me? I realize that it will be OK in terms of the 'fender skirts', but what about on the inside of the rim, and more importantly, the front end, with hitting inner fenders, or steering components?
Also, the man at the store showed me how to google this backspace calculator, and it's a real handy tool, if anyone is thinking about putting different rims on their car. Of course, the file is too big, so just google "offset backspace chart", and then click on 'images', and the one that is the best one, has the blue on the left side, and yellow on the top.
Thanks,
John
