| Guys, I´m owning my 94 BRwagon now since just some months and I would like to inform in advance how to upgrade the tranny first to recondition it and second which possibilities are there to reinforce it to accept a bigger Motor. I reckon sometime I want to rebuild the engine up to maybe 400 hp and the tranny should be adequate for this. In Germany, we ( and especially myself ) are way less familiar with automatic transmissions especially US brands, so it would be nice if you can advice some strengthend and well approved parts which replaces the ones which are prone to crack or wear out usually with more (or even standard) power. Is there a dealer or other specialist who can be recommended for those parts? Thanks a lot for your experiences ! Udo | |

| An answer to this question, would depend on you level of mechanical expertise,.
Try this google search,. "simple 4l60e upgrades"
you will get more information than your head (english german translator) can handle, from mild to wild modifications,.
Transmission guys are like chefs,. each transmission tech has his way of building modifying transmissions, and lots of times they don't agree with each other,.
you can buy good simple upgrades from a company called sonnax,.
Make sure you stick with products compatible for 1994 4l60e's,. in 1995 they changed a few things around in the transmission and the pcm,.

| I thought BMW was using the 4L60e for a while, I do speak some German but its not related to car parts. Sonnex makes good parts, and you will be able to get a 4L60e to easily withstand that power rating, later versions and derivitives had a 400HP engine in front of them. | |

| I've watched several 4L60E videos on Youtube. The rebuilders who share their videos make it seem really simple, and honestly it doesn't look as complicated as I envisioned. If I had one I didn't care about, I'd take it apart and get some hands-on (or hands-wet) experience | |

| I was just joking,, takes a bit of time to go busy with, but I agree basically. If you´re not under time pressure and take bit by bit apart, I think it should work. Anyway, to understand all functions of the hydraulic system is really challenging, and this demand has to be fullfilled to alter design features or even try to make them work better as sonnax did for instance. | |

| I'm actually looking into it as I have a 4L60E sitting in my garage from a Silverado I parted out, nobody's biting on buying it as a core since I'm not comfortable selling it as working with over 200k miles even tho it drive fine around the yard. Anyways I wanted to go thru the transmission, convert it to 2WD and maybe even throw some upgrade parts at it to replace worn out stuff. Then stick it under the bench as a standby for a swap or whatnot. Seems pretty simple from all the threads I've read and videos. Guess I'll find out. | |
