Under what circumstances does the chime module "chime"

The one in my Caprice is as silent as the grave. The Chilton and owners manuals are no help. Does anyone have a list of the items that will trigger an audible signal? I just swapped out the original module with a unit from a donor, and no change.

I think leaving your keys in the ignition with the engine off and the door open will trigger it. Seat belts not connected when engine is on, headlights on when you open the door with the engine off, and possibly low oil pressure (mine would drive me nuts when my 305 was having oil pressure issues) are others.

The FSM has info on it in the electrical section.

Fuse #33 must have had some schmutz on the contacts.  I pulled it to check power and continuity to the chime module, cleaned the contacts, and when I replaced it the chime box worked.

Now I need to do the same with the remaining fuses.

Dang.  There goes my dream to celebrate retirement: driving from NY to FL in the left lane of I-95 at 46 mph with the left turn signal on.  I think I could tolerate the horns, fingers and gunshots, but that chime would be annoying.

I need to get a suitable hat for that drive too.  What do you think...Fedora or cap?
