Hello everybody!

Longtime lurker, first-time poster.

I have and have had many, many cars but I have a soft spot for the B bodies.

My first car was a 94 9C1 and I still miss it.

When I was a kid, my grandfather had a string of Buick (Electras and Roadmasters) Wagons that I always got a kick out riding in and loved.

They had an elegance and ride that was a noticeable improvement over the Chevy Celebrity I grew up around. I still love the A body too, but could always sense the same DNA though at a higher grade found in the B bodies.

If memory serves, Grandpa (in my lifetime) started with a brown 77, then an 86 for my Grandma (my favorite, Grey with grey leather- nicest I've ever seen) my uncle wanted it, so it got sold and replaced with a beautiful silver/black top/black int 85 Seville, then he found another 85 Navy Electra wagon for himself- but it wasn't quite as nice.

The windows had been tinted, and I remember Grandma commenting that it rode like a roller skate.

He had that for a short time and then the Roadmasters came.

Started with a 1992 in Navy- also a beautiful car, but when he heard they were going to quit making them he kept his eyes open and found a white 96 Limited, loaded up with Gran Touring suspension and everything else you could get.

We agreed it wasn't quite as sharp as the navy one it replaced- but still a great car- and he knew he wanted it for the long haul.

I don't think the 92 had many miles on it-(maybe 90k?) but he wanted a good low starting point for maximum service life. I think the 96 had maybe 25 or 30k on it then.

True to form, he kept it till the end of his life, aged 92 in 2016.

He and I always had very similar taste in cars, as far as I can tell since the time I was about 5 years old.

So- now that white 96 lives with me.

She is running just great with 148k, just got a fresh set of whitewalls and some tie rods- next it'll be time for shocks.

I'm sure they are original. She still gleams and gets compliments all the time.

She is in good company, as I also have his 1997 Towncar, triple black with 98k. That one he bought new, for the same reason more or less- he saw the 98's and he didn't like them. So he bought a new square one and kept it.

He had several new cars since, a new Chrysler 300 when those came out and then a new DTS in 2011.

But he was never without a Buick and a Lincoln in my lifetime. And a Grand Wagoneer for that matter...

great story - thanks for sharing!

hope you can keep it nice - sun is not kind to the vinyl wood paneling and the 96 models esp. white have an issue with the primer/paint so they can be more prone to rusting as I personally have experienced :-(
