Are they standard or metric thread? I need to get new ones of a different length...

figured out they are 3/8-16 standard

Just about anything that threads into the block or heads will be SAE. Most other fasteners for other parts designed after the Dark Ages will be Metric.

"standard" in automotive terms pretty much means Metric nowadays.
