| A quick question, if I am at cruising speed and speed up slightly on a marginal incline and the car studders like a rumble strip when unlocking the converter, is that torque converter shudder? It doesn't do it if I speed up aggressively and down shift nor does it do it when I accelerate and brake to test the lock up. Only on gradual acceleration and mostly when using cruise control. I did a fluid and filter change with DEXRON III about 3 months ago and this has started in the last couple of weeks. It does not do it going into fourth gear only coming out. The car did a more violent version 5 years ago when I bought it and had cleared up with fluid changes and some shudder fix. I did not replace the shudder fix when I did this fluid change instead I did the Lube Gard ATF Protectant. Should I still use the Shudder Fix? | |

| had my 94 rmw doing that, but I had a full flush done on it, not just fluid and filter, and the shudder went away, my car only has about 153,000 miles on it though. | |

| You can get a shudder stop at NAPA. It worked temporarily in my OCC until the 3/4 gave up. | |

| Speaking of neglected trannies, i came across a tip suggesting that one could siphon a quart every 3000-5000miles- like same time u do an oil change and add some fresh trans fluid. I recall this was in a video in changing the transmission filter which i would think most all the fluid wouldve come out then anyway. | |

| The trans holds 12 quarts of fluid. | |

well you might get lucky doing a full flush, as it's recommended at 100,000 miles so your only 32,000 miles over, I was 50,000 over when I had the tranny flush done, and it was because of a shudder like what your talking about. Oh and I didn't have any additives put in after the flush or since then and no problems even with a load in the car on the highway at speed. | |

| I think this was a suggestion as a way to deal With a neglected trans without it being a shock to the system. I wondered about this as my last wagon had been neglected and ended up having a full flush service done around 145k and i think within 10k miles is when the 3/4 went out after that was done. Also had an 2003 xj8 which they touted as ‘service free’ transmish which of course wasnt the case - it just meant there was no drain hole for the fluid but they were known to fail without being serviced after 75-150k and mine was at 124k so being as a trans cost more than the value of the car to fix i decided to sell it before anything happened. | |
