are they supposed to come on with the rear gate opening? if so, what switches it? mine have power and light up with the switch on the bottom of the grab handle but not automatically with any doors.... didn't know which was the proper way they were supposed to function

The lights should come on when the gate is opened as a door. They are controlled by the same switch that controls the "gate ajar" light on the cluster. It is located in the lower right side of the gate. The switches on the cargo bay handles only turn the lights on and off when the gate is closed or open as a gate.

I will check it tonight to see if they operate when opening as a door... the gate ajar light works fine... the lights come on with the switches on the bottom of the handles... i tried it with the glass open... then closed the glass to see if they would go off... they did not. but at that point the gate is closed obviously as well...so they will stay on if turned on by the switches.... but i'll check the gate operation tonight and see if anything changes....

PO had both bulbs removed, so im assuming something doesnt work properly....

"so im assuming something doesnt work properly"

May have been confused that there is no "OFF" position. Only "ON" and "AUTO".

The switches may be broken in the on position. The switches will only work with the gate closed or open as a gate. The glass does not have an effect on the lights. You can not turn the lights off with the gate open as a door.
