| I'm helping a friend of mine who has a 91 wagon. He replaced the worn 305 with an engine that came out of a 93 Camaro with a TBI on top. It was dumping fuel and wouldn't stay running, we changed the coolant sensor and now it idles but once it starts to warm up black smoke starts puffing out the tail pipes. Almost as if it would be switching between open and closed loop ? I think it may be the fuel regulator, but I figured I would ask for some advice first. | |

| No he didn't. But what would be the difference ? both vehicles were TBI cars. Only the long block from the Camaro was used. | |

| I hav a '93 with the same issue. I have changed the throttle positioning sensor and the idle control solenoid. I did remove the engine air intake heat tube if thats what you reference that pulls hot air up to the air intake snorkle. Hope I did not throw away the tube. | |

| '93 Camaros were LT1 cars. '92 still had the TBI standard on the V-8's though. | |

| I reinstalled the warm air intake tube from the drivers side exhaust mainfold to the air intake and it is fixed. | |

What was it that your's was doing ? This one I have feeling it may have something with valve lash because if it's sitting at idle and we hit the gas, it doesn't have much power. On the freeway, at a crusing speed, you hit the gas and she gets with it. We just need to make the time to check the lash and look for the heat riser hose.

| Two issues remain; The idle is erratic at coasting speeds around 40-50, I can watch the tach go up to 1500 and back to 1000.
Sometimes it idles in park at 500 and goes up to 700 and back. I may try the MAF next have done idle solenoid, air temp sensor near the intake, O2, Catalytic converter. May also test fuel pressure

| You have a cracked hose between the fuel pump and the exit piping, or a Bosch fuel pump. | |
