Went to Cedar Park Texas Saturday Night Cruise-In only to find a rent-a-cop in a Corolla waving cars away. The shopping center where we've been meeting since last spring recently had a Dollar General open, and they complained to the property manager. This HAD turned into a huge meet, and it's SAD to see it broken up.
HOWEVER one of the regulars waved me down and told me they were meeting in the old Albertson's parking lot at the corner of 1431 and 183, about a mile away. Went there and sure enough there was a large group of cars present. Parked and had a nice evening. Sorry the pics are so dark, my camera sucks at night, but you get the idea.
The wagon got a lot of looks. Parked next to a really pretty C4 Vette and we compared LT1's. Also met some cool new people. Here's some highlights.
Met a guy with a new 2010 Challenger R/T Hemi. He special ordered it in white because he's a huge fan of the movie Vanishing Point, and when he saw the new Challengers come out decided he had to have one. This one was a stick too, with a very sharp Pistol Grip shifter. His only mod was a free-flow exhaust, and it sounded awesome. He also pointed out the chrome mag wheels on the R/T's are actually plastic wheelcovers that fit over the stock mag wheels. I had to tap them..you'd never know. At first I thought that was kinda cheap, but he pointed out the fact that if you curb-check one, replacements are only $30. Much cheaper than fixing a damaged mag wheel. Interesting.
Also met a really nice guy in a red 1989 Mustang GT 5.0 convertible. I'm not a Ford guy but Since I grew up around the Fox-body cars, this one stood out. Bone stock, 5-spd, and only 39K miles on it. Red on Red too. Pretty car. He said when he got the car it had the original turbine wheels and tires on it. He said the tires were hard as rocks, but he saved them for judged shows and had a set of 92 Mustang 5-star mags on the car.
Some other stand-out cars were a GORGEOUS 79 black Bandit Trans Am. Thing looked new and sounded awesome. He was just finishing the restoration and the dash gauge trim and shift knob were still on order, but he'd just gotten the car licensed so he brought it out. Nice Car!
And an oddity...a 1978 Ford Ranchero GT. Unrestored and in mint original condition. Weird.
Also had a tiny-tiny Triumph Spitfire park next to my wagon. It performed a double function of making itself look even smaller and my wagon look even larger. Ha!
Anyway pics are below. Sorry again for the darkness but you get the idea. Fun times!
