PostSubject: 305 Exhaust   305 Exhaust Icon_minitimeWed Jan 28, 2009 3:42 pm

I'm thinking of fixing up my exhaust a little bit. I've already removed the cat. So, I have the stock muffler and resonator, where should I go from there? I've tried searching around, but not many people putting a beefy exhaust on a ball-less L03. I just want it to sound good, and if I get some performance or MPG out of it, that's a bonus.

I like the way Uberwagon's sounds, but they don't seem to make that muffler anymore. By the way, Ray, do you have the video of your exhaust? The link on ISSF is dead.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

-Jeff

Sadly no, I can not find that muffler for sale anywhere now, I guess $29.99 for a flowmaster copy was too good to last, maybe they got sued for design infringement or something. You can probably get the same sound with any chambered style muffler.
Here is my set up. Gutted cat (needed to keep it on the car to keep the German inspectors happy), the now unavailable Force Pro Series muffler, no resonator, and a straight pipe that dumps about 18" from the bumper. I used to have one of those 4" red neck truck style exhaust tips on it, but after who knows how many truck/boat/train changes in the ordeal of being shipped from the U.S. to Germany and one German winter, the cheap Chinese chrome thing had to go, plus the whole family has a bunch of funny black stains on their pants, right around the mid shin area. I have a set of Z/28 rectangle tips that I will run out the side, after I do a dual exhaust setup, guess I've got to find another muffler to go with myself.
For your listening pleasure.

Keep in mind it was like 32-33 degrees out and it was the first start of the day when I filmed this, so it is a mixture of smoke and steam.

They used to sell them at Summit, but I did a search for FRC-5202 and it shows that it is unavailable (Here's the link)

But, it also says "Substitute Part:SUM-633252"

It appears to be the same type of muffler and I'm hoping it would sound the same. It's a little more pricey, but not as much as a Flowmaster.

I did some searching around last night and found this: Dynomax Thrush Welded Muffler. Anybody ever use these? Do they sound good? They are cheaper than the Summit Mufflers, so I might just have to get these instead.

I say give it a shot. The only reason I bought the muffler on my car was the price, and my mom sent me a $50 Jegs gift certificate.

I did a 3" single on my Suburban and I liked it. For my wagon though, I want true dual exhaust so I am actually swapping an entire low milage 96' RMW exhaust over to my car using a 95' 1A2 gastank(car was totalled Sad ) I had SLP shorty's I was gonna run but I decided I am probably gonna use a pair of longtube headers on it... Haven't decided on mufflers yet.

Hey Pat, what did your exhaust guy charge you to bend up the pipe? You told me before, but I lost a lot of information when my hard drive crashed.

The muffler and tailpipe finally fell off my '93, so I'm collecting the rest of the parts I need for the job. We have a couple of places locally that make custom exhaust, but if your guy is descent for price, I'd make the trip, since he can obviously do a good job.

Thanks

it cost just a tad over 3 bills, the pipe and his time to bend and weld. I supplied all the other bits...
