WTB- 3.23 wagon rearend Empty
PostSubject: WTB- 3.23 wagon rearend   WTB- 3.23 wagon rearend Icon_minitimeTue May 24, 2011 5:13 am

I looking to buy a good 3.23 wagon rear. The one in my 91 is making some nasty sounds and I think replacing maybe cheaper than rebulding. My current one is a G80 rear, but will consider a non posi. Haven't found any around the southern Iowa area. Thanks.

It may just need to have the fluid changed.

I have owned the ones in my wagon from when it was new, just swapped them to the 95 (see my LROM write up) and that rear end would make an awful clunking noise when turning when it was hot after a year or so. That meant change the additive.

I will be changing them when the transmission is changed,if you are able to wait.It has about 80,000 miles on them.

likely one of the pinion bearings,. cheaper to fix than replace the whole unit,.

It could be the axle bearing(s). You should check them as well. If they are the problem, you will need axles and you will be replacing the fluid. Put the additiive in first, then fill it with the gear oil.
