| i was planning on going to atco raceway in nj all week with my wagon. a couple days ago i started hearing a weird clicking noise in the rear of car thought it might be the brakes so today i pulled the drums pads where cracked i thought that might be it so replaced them no help. so tonight on way to show started getting worse. after show went to freinds shop we took rear cap off looks like it is pinion bearings. so brought pinion home to press bearings on hopefully tomorrow morning it will be back together. i had already replaced carrier bearings with the ones i kept from my original rear they where low milage. so now the pinion bearing will go in next. see its good to keep your old parts. so if all goes well tomorrow morning i will be back on road and going racing. so the reason for post is just to b@#$h and complain before i explode. i will let everyone know if i make it and if so the results at the track. oh was not sure to post in rear section or racing section. | |

| well put bearings on pinion the old ones had alot of play. put new ones in got rid of play but not the noise. i am back to thinking it is a brake problem. took it for a ride was good then felt like brakes where hanging up then put it in shop and the wheels felt like they where spinning free. took for ride again felt fine then the noise came back. i am now thinking that maybe when brakes get hot a wheel cyl is hanging up or maybe the rubber line for the rear is going bad and not allowing fluid to go back. had that happen on a fr wheel when i was a kid. the noise is like a creeking sound not there all the time and only hear it when going real slow like idol. oh to top it off pulling in the shop i hit quarter panel against the garage door weather striping . looks like no damage except the weather stripping from garage door left some of its vynl on car hopefully will buff off. safe to say no racing tonight. so aggravated could just scream . i need a brake so just putting it away for today before i break something else | |

| Sounds like a good idea to me.We were just talking about brake hoses collapsing and causing the brakes to hang up.Better get it right before you hit the track.Best of luck John and be careful . Jim Gordon |

| If I back up while turning sharply, like backing out of my parent's driveway onto the street, I get a click once or twice from the rear axle. Had the grease changed at 80K miles and it has 97K on it now, and yes I added the GM limited slip additive. Has done it since I bought the car at 71K miles. Was told it was the posi rear and not to worry about it.....so I haven't.

| well thought i would post a update i did a search over on other forum joel had this in one of his post and sounds like my 1 problem. 23. 3rd gear starts, can manually shift through all gears. When car has been turned off for a bit, then back on it will run normally.: VSS dropoff w/ Hi-stall converter. The rpms are too high, but VSS is showing no movement. Happens after a tire burning take-off. Doesn't store a code, will not throw a CEL (I've heard that it will store a code if it happens 3 or more times). Cure: Reprogram PCM for VSS dropoff -- PCMforLess knows about it. but i still have to find the ratchet sounding noise. i replace the rubber rear brake hose today before i found joels post. when its on lift no noise. so i am thinking of putting it on lift and putting the rear on stand to load suspension to see if i can get noise or un bolting drive shaft then pushing car on ground and see if i can get noise. just to make sure it is deffinetly in the rear. if anyone has ideas chime in. i will keep everyone posted on the saga | |

| It could be the universal joint at the back of the drive shaft. | |

| here is a update i put the gm limited slip additive in and ran car on lift for awhile then put it down went for a ride noise is gone so far. i cant believe it worked. the noise was pretty bad but it went away. has anyone read the back of the bottle it is kind of weird. it gives you directions of use then states not to be used in locking differentials (g80). kind of wierd. anyways no i have to get pcm reprogrammed for stall convereter by pcmsforless. the wagon is running good as long as i dont do a burnout. thanks for all your inputs. i will let you know how i make out with new tune | |

| Pretty much any programmer can fix the high stall dropout issue for you, BTW. | |

| Just got back from Lime Rock towing the camper. Hit traffic and started getting heavu clunking from the rear. While changing lanes to the left it became worse. The clunking goes away ove 30MPH. Took one slow right hand turn and heard a metallic scrape/grind from the right rear. Any recommendations '93RMW 104k miles. | |

I would check the universal joints, and then fluid level in the differential (if you have a posi). Could be bearings as well. Check for gear oil on the break backing plate. | |

| Will do thanks, checked the level last fall and it was topped off. This had happened once before; hot outside and 10 miles of 70 MPH then fast stop for construction traffic. Started off again with speeds under 20 and it felt like the rear end would lock up any moment. | |

| One tube of the LSD fluid, and fill the pumpkin with 90w until you can put your finger into the filler cap and touch fluid. | |
