| I did a search for this issue, but didn't find the info I wanted. My wagon's steering column has developed a minor "clunk" sound in it when turning even a small amount. Dosen't happen all the time, but I can both feel and hear it when the radio is off. Almost seems to me as if the universal joint has some play in it. Dosen't really effect how the car turns, just a bit annoying. Not looking to replace the entire column if I can avoid it. Car just hit 92K miles . Options?

| Not trying to scare you Steve but I would check everything that has bolts/nuts for tightness. I mean do it now before anymore driving! Jim |

| This has been going on now for at least 4-5 months. When there are posts on this site talking about steering column replacement, is it mainly for this same situation? | |

| Now I am sure 1 of the other guys has more knowledge with the steering column than I do.I am just worried about something breaking or coming loose. Jim |

| I've not experienced a problem like you describe. Having to replace steering columns is not a common problem on these cars but it can happen.
Certainly check your front suspension to make sure nothing is obviously loose down there.
Also there is a flexible connection between the steering column and the steering box. It's possible something is going on there. | |
