tranny in limp mode. That looks like a really good start. The inside needs a little detailing and he's up front about the other stuff. The transmission is a question. These do tend to fail if abused or used hard....towing in Overdrive and such. You'd have to have that looked at, but if you could get a good price, that could be a good deal. Right when I bought my '96 at 73K miles I decided to do all the normal fluid changes and such. I didn't feel like getting tranny fluid rained on me, so I took the car to the local Firestone to have the trans fluid and filter changed, along with the rear axle grease. When I picked the car up the Check Engine light was on. I of course picked it up after hours, so had to come back the next day. Same deal as what that guy said, the trans was in limp mode. Turns out when they replaced the trans filter they pinched a wire. They ordered a new harness and took care of it the next day. Really handled it well, and I'm at 102K now with "knock on wood" no issues. So it "could" be something simple. Good luck! A white wood-delete over red Roady is a SHARP car! -Mike

My friend is at LeJeune for another month or so with his family. I could make this trip. Pretty colors and well optioned for a Caprice. Needs Impala wheels. The main thing you give up on a Caprice over a Roady is the Vista roof over the 2nd row seat. Caprice's also do not have electronic climate control and are in general a little less "plush" than the Roady, but overall it's the same car. Many people like the lower look of the Caprice wagons. You pays your money and you takes your choice....but the wire wheels gotta go. -Mike

| LOL. wheels aren't a concern until after winter.
Question about the Vista roof: does it have a shade or is it just open all the time?
My mom had a Caprice, which is kinda why I want one. but I would love a Roadmaster as well. don't mind the wood trim either. as long as it's not hiding rust.

low price That's a deal there! As for the Vista roof, yes the 93 and newer ones have two pull-out sun shades. Roller-type thing....shocking I can't find a pic of mine... I keep mine closed most of the time, it helps the a/c cool the car faster to have them closed. On cool days and when it rains (both hardly ever here...) the kids like to look up through the roof, and it does add some good light to the interior when you want it. The kids also like it in the evenings, and it gives adults a ton of head room in the 2nd row. It's funny, at the car shows and cruise-in's the Vista roof is one of the most popular things....followed by the "how does it open" question....which is then followed by the confused look when I tell them it doesn't. Ha! -Mike

| yeah, I do like the vista roof. I think the thing I hate about the Roadmaster is the front bumper. but I prefer the interior (particularly the steering wheel) | |

| It's a Georgia CL wagon, but look at the picture in the CL ad. It is either a Indiana or Michigan plate. He's probably getting rid of it and getting a southern car.

he said right now it doesn't have rear brakes... not sure I'd want to drive that across country.

| You can have mine for $2500. Runs and drives great, NEEDS nothing, mechanically. Well, Cats if you have emissions testing. Some rust in a couple places but should last for many years up there. New tires, front end, tuneup, no oil leaks. Impala floor shift, overhead console, headers, 2 1/2 exhaust. If not interested, this car isn't too far from me and they say it's rust free. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/oldsmobile-custom-cruiser-88-wagon-1992-oldsmobile-88-custom-cruiser-like-a-roadmaster-or-caprice-wagon-statiowagon_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQitemZ110742792753QQsspagenameZRSSQ3aBQ3aSRCHQ3aUSQ3a101 | |

| Caprices don't have the sail panels (aka "fly away" panels, because, well... that's what they do.) Some OCCs have the Caprice glass, some don't. |
