| So if you drove a TBI to the fest this weekend what kind of MPG did you get? I drove up to Jax, FL this weekend and my total MPG for the whole trip was 22.5 That included about 50 miles of surface street driving and ~590 highway. | |

| well, i didn't drive to the fest, but i get a regular 24 mpg highway doing around 70-75. If i go to 85 it drops to 21mpg. (350 TBI) Pete | |

| John I unfortunately missed the fest but I did take a short trip to ashland sat night.I went to meet Glenn to drop off Stingroo's rims.I filled up friday afternoon and filled up at the same pump after returning home.Averaging about 70mph up and back and I averaged 28.3 mpg. That was using the cruise almost the entire trip. And yes I was accelrating gently up to speed.Using one of Nick's terms called hypermileing is what I was attempting to do! | Damn! Best I ever got was 24 mpg at a hair over 70mph.
Normally I keep my highway speed at 80-85 though. Just might have to try this "slow" thing.... |

| Lol, I never track it...but I know I spent $150 for gas on that trip. (I use mid-grade) I just go by the $$ spent and fill up every 300 miles.

| We got around 21 based on our gas reciepts going down to Lewisberry Tim area. Because as I found out on my trip down to Front Royal,...... my speedo is off by 7 mph. So when I was going 79 mph Tim and John were only going 72 mph. | |

So that looks like your spedo was 9.1% off. If you did not take that into account you got 19 MPG. It is dangerous for me to do math on the weekend!! Someone check me.

| Since our speedo are electronic they are not married to the odometer. My 92 Chevy 'Ruby" is off by about 10% but the odometer is spot on. I found this very hard to understand as I'm old and used to mechanical speedos, then one day the dim light bulb went off and it made sense again. | |

| I dis agree with you Jon. My spedo was off 10% and so was my odometer. Based on the mile markers on the PA turnpike.
If you what you are saying is correct then it would need to have some type of motion sensor for the odometer that was different from the speedometer sensor in the tranny. That makes no sense. The speedometer and the odometer are both electronic and both get the signal from the SAME computer. If the car thinks it is going 79 and it is actually going 72 then the Odometer is also being fooled.
For instance, if you put huge tires on the car you throw off both. So any mileage calculation will be off as much as the spedo.

| Whoops I forgot to correct for my short tires and my speedo reading faster than I am really going. My mileage is actually 25.9 not 28.3.Should have used the mileage total shown on my GPS and not my speedo.I feel like thats still decent MPG for a large car with aa small V-8. Sorry for the mistake! Jim |

| See that is what didn't make sense to me Tim,.... I was hitting the mile markers spot on. Even every tenth marker too. | |

What I did to figure out mpg was I calulated all my gallons used up until you and I both got gas in New Cumberland. Then I map quested the address on the reciept from here to New Cumerland to get the actual mileage I put on the car. I was missing a few miles because a few detours but nothing over 10 miles. So i didn't care and I don't think the extra 10 miles was going to make it that much more,... meaning MPG. So I never used any of my numbers off my odometer,... only the ones online and off the reciepts.

| TIm I guess we will agree to disagree. I checked this out on my car over a period of months and everytime I did, I matched the mile markers dead on and time through the traps was different than indicated speed. this was on different roads and different places. Maybe Florida miles are shorter I dunno.
I would tend to believe what you say as it makes perfect sense, except for my experience. I never bothered to go any further into it than that...

| Speedo on our Cappie is spot on at 50mph (compared to the GPS) however, 80mph on the speedo makes actual 75mph on the GPS. We drive the factory size wheel / tire combo. Pete. | |

| ^ That's what mine is like. The further to the right it goes the less accurate it gets. |

I guess there are two things we are talking about. #1 the computer set up of the spedometer/odometer and #2 the accuracy of the individual instrument. It sounds like Jarrod's spedo is just way out of wack. In which case you are correct.
