Anyone running KYB Gas-A-Just on the front? Rock Auto has them for $35 each, and I'm about to press the BUY button. I had these on my Citation X-11 (stop laughing) and loved them.

I've never really loved the Monroe Severe Service shocks on the front. The car went from way too soft with the stock POS shocks to jarringly stiff with the Monroe SS's. I loved how the car no longer bobbed around, but bumps set the interior to rattling and I'm tired of it. Want some of the Buick ride back.

I thought about buying the KYB GR2's, which are listed as the "premium replacement" for the stock shocks, but I do not want the car to be too floaty, and have a feeling those are made for Grandpa.

I mainly just want a less jarring ride, but not a float boat. Have my cake and eat it too? Very Happy

Any thoughts?

Oh and I know everyone LOVES the Bilsteins, but with everything else they are flat not in the budget.

Thanks for the advice as always. Will not press BUY until I've heard your thoughts.

Mike:

Get the KYBs. Have been running them on everything now for over 30 years. The only difference between the KYBs and the Bilstiens is the valving. KYB started building gas shocks under license from Dr. Decarbon when Bilstein and Mercedes reneged on the original R&D agreement. The original deal was Bilstein was to develop shocks for the entire market but Mercedes put the clamp on that deal. They only wanted Mercedes to have the technology.

Decarbon licensed KYB in the 70s and internally it is the same. The deal was KYB could build for anything except Mercedes. Don't know if this is still true but it was 30 years ago. Put them on the front of both Buicks and the Caddy. The difference is significant. If I could find a dependable air bag for the rear, would install the KYBs there as well.

Make sure you get the gas shocks though. The GR2 is just a conventional shock.

Thanks for the reply. I went ahead and ordered the Gas-A-Justs, not the GR2. Read some bad GR2 reviews besides.

I hope these take some of the shakes out of the bumps. We'll see.
