Seal comes right out...grab an edge with a pair of vicegrips and pull around the edges. I put it back on by making sure the hub was clean and lubed..gently tapped with a rubber mallet until I could start the center bolt and put a couple of the bolts on the outer holes (holding the crank from turning by putting a wrench on an outer bolt) and worked it all back in. It goes back on pretty easy actually. Done this on a couple engines over the years. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

| Being a man of function, not form, I can appreciate anyone who tries to keep the greasy parts of his ride pretty. I don't, because I'm lazy and because it's a daily job here in the rust belt. | |

Thanks Randy I bought a piece of threaded rod to go into the end of the crank, Bottom it out into the crank and make it long enough (12" or so) go past the balance'r and use a nut and hardened washers to install it. I had to go to the outside of the hub or HB with a huge washer to get a wrench on it. If I think about it I will take a pic of the kit I set up. If it tries to turn on you use a short piece of chain from the top bolt hole to the frame on the passenger side and keep if from turning. Tim

Tim This is the best way,. hitting the crank snout with a hammer(rubber or otherwise) transfers the shock straight to the thrust bearing,. Nick

| Hmmmmm. I think the non-hammer methode is better. I don't want to take a chance with thrust bearing damage. I have Murphy working with me all the time. Ha Ha Ha! What size is the threaded shaft to be? Also the big hard washer? Nick? Tim? Cool color red.
Thanks Randy | |

| If I could figure out how to post photos, I'd show you the one I made last summer. Since I can't, if you go over to the LT1 forum, there are pix and instructions. |
