| I've been getting 4x6 and 6.5". Which is it? I'm thinking it's 4x6. I'd install external tweeters as the HF in the car is completely blocked when people are in the seats. Here's the only pic I have right now: and the head unit: Also pic of options. I think that that's a non original head unit.. https://2img.net/h/i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii317/kshefan/1991-buick-roadie/IMG_5990-1.jpgAlso, is the stock head unit worth keeping? I'd love to mod it for a 1/8" input and keep everything stock looking, but have a small removable sub, nice Aura speakers all around (or if I can swing the cost, Focal), and Parts Express has an amazing 50wx4 and 150wx1 amp currently. | |

| I thought i read somewhere that the fronts were 6.5s. when i was testing the speaker wiring to the front i thought they looked oblong but i didnt have the door panels all the way off. that being said i had a friend of mine give me two sets of jensen 6.5s so i'll be attempting to install those in the fronts.
as for the stock head unit. i have never heard anything good about delco radios. i replaced mine with an older sony xplode deck and the sound quality was noticeably better. once college is done at the end of the month i'll be replacing the sony with a JVC model. Reason for switching to the JVC is because the jvc has a rear aux input so i can hide my ipod in the drawer below the climate control unit- looks cleaner imo.
if you haven't yet, i would be inclined to replace the 6x9s in the rear first, i would think you would hear a greater improvement over replacing just the fronts... and its easier. a good tip i found is to surround the 6x9 speaker compartments with foam.
off topic* i think i read gu2 on your option codes. i think that means 2:73 open diff.

| I just thought of something...top-of-dash mounting some 4" speakers, a la the Volvos of old...
What say ye?
When I am in the car, my leg completely covers the speaker opening, same when another person is in the passenger seat.

| The 94-96 RMs have tweeters in the upper panel. You could make a hole and cover for a tweeter in front of the door handle There is room behind the panel, and you could relocate your mirror control to another place. | |

| Concert Sound II equipped cars have 6.5" speakers with the tweeter mount. From the looks of it, your car is NOT equipped with CSII, meaning that you have 4x6 slots. You have a number of options, one of which is buying the CSII speaker buckets and getting some 6.5" speakrs to fit in there (not all 6.5" will fit in those buckets. For reference, see this thread) You can also buy door pods like Ray (Stingroo) did, but given that you are going for a "stock" look, then those will probably not be to your liking. The final option is to put in the 4x6 speakers, and although they are an upgrade over stock, they will not give you the quality that a 6.5" will. Do with that what you will. | |

| The more I think about it, the less a tweeter-in-door option appeals to me, almost no high end (or sound period) makes it to me from the driver's speaker, which does work properly.
I'm not fond of the idea of remounting the mirror control, another location would be optimal, plus when I drive, my arm blocks the path of the tweeter in the door (in the previous car).

You may have some luck there. You will have to take off the dash cover to scope out the situation. I did this on my 95, with a pair of itty-bitty 2&1/2" speakers. It was unbelievable how little room there was anywhere, especially on the driver's side. I had to hack into the ductwork a bit, but it works & gives me some 'up-front' sound.

With a 91 dash it *may* be a bit easier.
