| Hey guys, I wanted to share what I did for an intake on our 1991 Caprice Wagon. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]I have had this on for about a year now and have been extremely happy with it. I understand that pulling hot air from on top of the engine is worse than pulling cold air from up by the grille but I noticed no adverse affects from this mod. The stock airbox was filthy and cracked in areas so I wanted to get rid of it and go a different route. I had to use a 2" tall element and a base that was raised slightly to clear all of the wiring and sensors on top of the intake/throttle body. I bought a Mr. Gasket assembly off the shelf at O'Reillys and it fit right on. There is a hole in the bottom for the PCV valve which I used for the IAT sensor. The filter is a 2"x14" reusable K&N knock off. The only other thing required was the stud from an S10/Blazer with the 4.3 to give the offset necessary. I was curious to know if anyone else has done this as I had never seen it done on a 91-96 before. I would like to use a taller (3") filter if I could find the right base/drop combination. I hope I don't get lynched too much for sharing this and that some people enjoy seeing it. -Collin | |

| I like that better than the ugly square airbox these cars had when new. Nice work. | |

Thank you, that was my main goal of doing this, clear up some underhood space and make it look different.

| I have seen similar intake swaps. There have been a number done with the Caddy hats, and PVC pipe, which clean up the area nicely too, and put the filter by the core support. There is also a chrome hat used with an aluminum tube if you like bling. | |

| I think it's Olds weighty-eight that has the gold block and chrome air cleaner in his sig....
Nice work. I was just lamenting how ugly my stock box is.....

Nice work. I was just lamenting how ugly my stock box is..... I had forgotten about his, I just went and looked at his sig again, his filter looks taller than mine. I have seen the other methods and I just like the aesthetics of the open element like mine the best. I am sure however that the Caddy hat with cone filter would perform better.

Not to get this thread off topic but can I see some pictures of the reverse hinged hood? It sounds very cool.

My air cleaner required minor 'massaging' of the firewall for clearance. Nothing major, just a few choice blows and a little touch-up paint. I hated the stock airbox as well. The old-school style is more fun. You can kinda see how close the rear of the lid is in this pic. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] That would work great if it didn't have a drop like it does. What I'd need is that with a bit of a raise to make it fit. The drop bases hit the wiring harnesses IIRC.

You won't notice anything other than possibly having to step on the gas more to get the same acceleration, and losing something at full throttle. How often does the average guy floor it? I only do it maybe once or twice a trip.

| Well, yeah... me too. But the other drivers out there don't seem to share my 'enthusiasm'. | |
