| Seems like it should work fine. The TBI has a spot for a center bent stud for a regular ol' open element air cleaner. If you go for it, post pics. |

| That should work. Pretty cheap too, which is nice! Might have to drill a hole for the Intake Air Temp sensor though. But no biggie.
Most TBI guys use an elbow from a 4.9L caddy and some pvc pipe, too. Again, you do need to mount your IAT in it and plug a hole in the elblow, too. But it's a cheap option. Make sure to get the bent hold down out of the TB of the donor car if you go that route.

| The pic is a generic photo, and could have a short or long tube. Long would be OK, because you can cut it, short...not so good. You should measure the length needed, and inquire about the length before purchasing. There are a couple of other listings for similar kits for other specific vehicles, with the same picture. | |

| Good luck, should look nice when installed! Here's a pic of a former Cruiser of mine with the "caddy intake" mod done as Bill commented on above: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |

| Morning Mike I wanted to know if you felt any difference in performance after making the above installation?I have the elbow and other parts needed to build a CAI system just like yours above.Havent done it because I have a $50 K&N filter in the stock air filter housing. Just Curious Jim Gordon |

| I got the cold air intake in the mail today and it fits good. But, the offset stud broke on me when I was fitting it, it might be the wrong size so I ordered a new one. I still got it rigged up for now. I will post a pic when its daylight.
It comes with a hole for the air hose that comes out of the valve cover to go in. So I just made the hole alittle bigger to stick the air sensor in and got a breather for the valve cover.
The air cleaner came in red. when you order this you do not know what color your going to get. |

| If the offset stud is prone to breaking, you can get one from a TBI Caddy that will not break. | |

| Nice job, looks good.
Jim. I'm not sure there was a noticeable "seat of the pants" improvement but it certainly wasn't worse. I still run it on my 'beater' Cruiser.

| Very worth it. 30 bucks! the air filter alone cost about that, no brand but still reusable.
Also its aluminum. the air stays colder then a plastic one would.
Its shorter but, it stops right where the fan blows out. I think its perfect in that spot. |

Its shorter but, it stops right where the fan blows out. I think its perfect in that spot. You want it to pick up air before it goes through the radiator. The space above the canister is fresh air before the radiator (that is where the OEM picks up air). A small box around the rear of the filter to funnel air to it, and block hot air from the engine compartment, would be an improvement. BTW, the aluminium looks really nice, but the plastic runs cooler, because it does not transfer as much heat from the engine compartment to the cooler air in the intake tube/hat. The intake air is the lower temp, so the transfer tries to make them the same temp. Aluminum has excellent heat transfer properties, whereas plastic is an insulator for heat.

| Go ahead Fred and rain on Carlos parade. These wagons are not race cars, so a few degrees difference in the intake temp shoud not be a big deal. |

| I said it looks nice. If pretty is what he wants pretty is what he gets. I do not want to rain on his parade, but his logic is faulty on the location of the filter for acquiring the coldest air/good location for air. A box around it would look nice if it was aluminum and polished. It would also accomplish the desired coldest air location. The best cold air is right behind the headlight. I have seen some cars with old circular intakes on top of the TBI. They look nice too, but they are not getting optimum intake air. It is just for show. The fact that the cars are not race cars, is not the issue...A couple of degrees of intake air temp is not going to kill the performance, but it could be better. So, stating that the air from behind the radiator is good does not fit the description of a cold air intake. | |

Fred your right. If i find a pipe longer ill add it with a heat box around it.
I heard steel is better then plastic. because it flows better, and thought aluminum was better because it never gets hot like aluminum foil. |

| Like most people in a hurry, he forgot the ' between the o and s. The Carlos was supposed to be Carlo's.
Foil is just thin, and steel is not quite as good of a conductor of heat as aluminum. Steel will hold the heat longer than aluminum. Plastic is still superior for heat insulation. You can test this by using a tube and put your hand inside with running hot water over the outside. The aluminum will get hot fast, the steel will get hot slower, but stay hot longer (it is usually thinner, so you may not be able to tell much difference), and the plastic will take a lot longer to heat up, not get as hot, and will cool off fairly quickly.

| Smoothness/continuity on the inside is the solution for flow quality. The smoother it is the better. There are some people who like to have a little turbulence at the surface of the tube, because they think it will be less "sticky". I do not know if that is true or not, but the manufacturers make everything smooth, so I would go with smooth and minimal seams. | |

| It is part of the evaporative emission control very system and is connected to the gas tank. It is not physically necessary to the operation of the car, but you will probably throw a code if you disconnect the valve, and it has a hose going to the manifold and the gas tank, which would have to be plugged. You could relocate it directly under the current position with the bracket from a 94-96 car, and then you would need a longer/rerouted hose and extended wiring. | |

Well, I guess you'd need some damn thick cables but also keep in mind if the battery goes anywhere inside the car, it has to be able to vent. You don't want the gasses it puts off venting into the interior of your car.

Moving the battery seems like an awful tedious task for a few horsepower at best (and many times, no power at all, just looks/sound). |

| On the plus side the battery would last a lot longer. My Riviera has it under the rear seat and it lasted almost 14 years before giving up. | |

| Yeah, that looks cool but for $200 you're not doing anything for performance, It'll still suck in hot air from the engine. Better to stick that money in suspension repair/upgrades to make the car more fun |
