PostSubject: Power window repair question   Power window repair question Icon_minitimeFri Oct 12, 2012 9:38 pm

When I bought the car in July, all five windows worked, although the drivers window was a bit jerky and a rear window was slow. I saturated all the channels with silicone spray, and all worked fine for a while. Then one day, after several days of torrential rain, the drivers window was dead. I pulled the door panel, and both wires have juice when I work the switch.
Sooo, is it likely to be a bad ground, or will I have to replace the motor?
It isn't that expensive, but I see a day of cursing General Motors, and lots of band aids in my future if I have to replace the motor.
Next week when I have a day off I'll see if it could be a bad ground, but I'm not betting on it.
Does anybody know of a tutorial on replacing the window motor on a brick?
Written or video, I don't care
. Question

IIRC, on my old 83 Buick Estate Wagon, it was a gear-driven sector mechanism. The motor was bolted or riveted to a plate and the plate was riveted to the inside door panel.

A few strips of duct tape held the window up while I drilled out the rivets. The motor and plate assembly could then be drawn out the largest opening of the inner panel. Mount the plate to the replacement motor using bolts and nyloc nuts (or locktite) and wiggle it all back into place. Secure the plate with short 1/4" bolts and nyloc nuts.

However, I traded in that car on the RMW in 1992, so I may be a bit fuzzy on the details...
