| Are there any other factory GM radios that fit the '95/'96 Roadmasters that have an aux. jack? I believe I once read some of the late '90's Pontiacs used this radio with an aux. jack. Anyone familiar with this?
If not, what aftermarket radios fit the opening that feature AM/FM/XM/HD/CD/aux. jack?

| No factory radios with the AUX jack fit our cars with out issue that I'm aware of. Someone on ebay sells older GM factory radios with a AUX jack installed, but I can't seem to find any at this moment. Other manufacturers radios work as well, just do some research first, I jumped head first tiring to get a late model Chrysler radio to work in our cars. It doesn't work, they run on a BUSS set up.... In a nut shell, a computer turns on the radio. Aftermarket is loaded with option, but shirlock9C1 has mentioned these 2 previously. | I send my son's Pontiac Vibe radio to a guy and he sent it back with the jack installed. He also cleaned it up and replaced a bulb or two. I think is was about $70 with return shipping. Very professional work. My son loves it.
His ebay sign on is factoryradios.

| The links to threads that detail instructions for installing an auxiliary jack are very well done. However, none that I've seen are of the radio used in the '95/'96 Roadmaster and many other GM cars. Does ANYONE know which wires and their location in the '95/'96 radio that can be used for an aux. jack?
My radio is AM/FM/cassettte only. I suspect there may be a factory plug for an external CD changer on these radios. Is that correct and if so can the "SOURCE" pushbutton be utilized to select the new aux. input?
If the above is not possible, the use of a jack that opens the circuit from the cassette player OR radio would be OK for the aux. input.

| Does the factory AM/FM/Cassette radio in a '95 Roadmaster have provision for the CD changer? If so, there must be a plug on the back to connect it.
If this unit does have provision for the remote CD changer, how does the "SOURCE" switch accomodate AM/FM, Cassette, AND CD changer instead of only AM/FM and Cassette.

| Cassette is automatic. Put in the tape, and the radio goes out. I don't recall what the 95 rmw radio looks like, but I know alot of the higher end GM radios of that period (like the one in my safari van) have a spot in the back to plug in a changer | |

| cadillac kevin,
The '95 Roadmaster AM/FM/Cassette radio does have a "SOURCE" switch. When there is a tape in the player, pressing the source switches the function to AM or FM.
My question is how to change the functions controlled by the switch to include the remote CD changer. Someone told me the dealer has to do this.
First, however, I'd like to know if there is a plug on the radio for a remote CD changer.

| Only some radios had the capability of handling a CD changer. I looked into that question myself. First off, it has to have the 9-pin accessory plug on the back. Second, even if it has that plug, it may not be compatible with a CD changer, especially if it has a CD player in the head unit. Physically they might look the same, but GM did something different internally, possibly a firmware change. You are most likely to find a changer-compatible head if it has the 9 pin plug and cassette only. I guess GM figured people with a changer wouldn't be using single CDs. I suggest you spend some time with Google.
The units with cassette and/or CD and/or CD changer toggle between them and the radio using the source button. If you insert a cassette or CD into the head, it will assume that's what you want to hear and switch to that medium, but you can press the source button to toggle between them. Once there is a cassette or CD already inserted, they just sit there dormant until selected using the source button.

| Mine is the cassette only and has a "SOURCE" switch in the lower right corner. The switch, however, only selects radio or cassette. It may be necessary for a GM dealer to change the settings inside the radio to make the switch also select remote CD change--or, in my case the AUX. JACK.
I'll search via Google for clues.
Thanks. | |
