| Can anyone give me a ballpark cost to have my '95 RMW rearend rebuilt and change gear to a 3.42. From 2.93? It works fine, hoping to upgrade for towing a Travel trailer(approx 3200 lbs.) Thanks for any insight you may offer. CC | |

It works fine, hoping to upgrade for towing a Travel trailer(approx 3200 lbs.) Thanks for any insight you may offer. CC I had the ring and pinion gear changed from 3.23 to 3.73:1 to tow my 1958 Airstream. It was the best modification for towing. It pulls the mountain passes in the west with no trouble. Think about using the 3.73. My trailer weighs 3000 loaded. Here is the breakdown for parts costs. GM OEM 3.73 Ring and Pinion $305. Master install kit 118. 2 x Axel bearings and seals 43. Gear oil 40. GM Limited Slip additive 11. 8.6 GM Reluctor gear 18 tooth 18. Labor 480. Dick

| CC, if you're anywhere near Metro Detroit, you can get it done at Drive Train Specialists on Groesbeck, just south of I-696. Last time I was there, full rebuild with a R+P change was $750. | |

| Pros: - quicker acceleration - less gear hunting on hills at highway speed - increased towing capacity
Cons: - install cost - decreased mpg

| No, 2.93s are still a 3 series carrier. 2.56 use a 2 series carrier. | |

CC I have a 3.23:1 Ring and pinion That I took out of my OCC when I replaced it with 3.73 gears. It is the original with 73K. It is quiet but I wanted more pulling power. If you are interested I will sell it to you cheap, plus shipping. PM me if you are interested. Dick

I agree. 3.73:1 works great for my needs. And I do have Posi. If anyone needs a 3.23 PM me for details.

| Again thanks, I've found a shop that does only differential work that I am going to use to install a 3.73. Likely around $900. | |
