Posted this in the Fleetwood forum, but thought y'all might find it entertaining. Or mildly interesting.

About this time last year I had a new vinyl top put on the limo. They cut in a new sunroof, too. It was not inexpensive. Well, the fargin thing is coming off. Wind is getting under it at speed and ripped it loose above the windshield. I'm fairly pissed about it, but the guy that the top shop was very apologetic and promised he'd make it right.

So my brother came to my house so we could travel to the shop together. He was in his '96 Roadmaster wagon. He got a bit of a head start because I had to maneuver the limo around my truck, which I had strategically placed behind the limo. 

I caught up to him at a light. Side by side. LT1 vs. LT1. 7,000 lbs. vs. 5,000 lbs. Whatever gears the limo came with vs. whatever gears are in the wagon's towing package. Wagon transmission vs. wagon transmission. 

I lined up in the left lane. I put the passenger side window of the limo down. My brother put his window down. Resisting the urge to ask for Grey Poupon, I asked my brother how he thought things were going to go. He said "poorly for you". It was on.

Light turned green and we both got a good start. By about 70 MPH (closed course, professional drivers) He had about half a car length on me. With another red light approaching and some traffic, I slowed down to let him in the open left lane. I chased him up the ramp to the interstate, gaining steadily above 70 MPH. We merged onto the highway at about 85 MPH and decided that was enough.

My girlfriend says I'm an idiot, but I told her it was a physics experiment. Identical drivetrains; weight and gearing differences. She still thinks I'm an idiot. Whatever. It was fun.

Dude. How could you NOT both floor it!  It wouldn't matter if you were on matching ostriches, you HAVE to race your own brother.

Granted, your "race" was the performance equivalent of two old women flailing their purses at eacher other, but it's still a cool thread.

Yeah, he also said this: "It's going to be a slow race no matter what". I agreed.

We had competing Turbo Regals years ago (mine was faster :-p). How times have changed.

lol, surprised the limo only gave up half a car length, must have 3.42s in it to recover the extra ton

Nice work.

The other day in my 9C1 I lined up next to a newer P71 at a light.   Spotlight, all black, nice tires, civilian plates, and a driver younger than me.  He was slightly ahead of me so I inched forward until we were tire to tire.  Light went green and we both hammered it.  My car is stock except for a mild tune and an intake.  His exhaust didn't sound stock... I pulled half a car on him by the time we let up.   I was surprised!  First time ever in a classic police car race!

You should be able to discern the gear ratio on your SPID. GT4 is a 3.73.

Its a genetic thing whenever brothers are side by side and if they dont race one of them can be stricken with a severe case of kicked butt!

I looked it up - both cars have 2.93s. I thought the limo was geared higher (numerically lower). I guess the difference really is the weight. I would imagine that there's also a difference in the '94 vs. '96 tune (OBD-II vs. not). Both cars have about the same mileage on them, too.

The local dragstrip is opening up on 7/5 after a brief hiatus. I thought they were done for good, but new owners appear to have revived it.

Stay tuned for some limo vs. wagon action at the dragstrip.
