WagonFest Mid-Atlantic 2015 - October 3rd, 2015 - Museum and Hotel info

So the Hershey auto museum is having a wagon display in the museum.   One of the guys (Daniel) had the idea of having a get together around this event.  I talked to the museum today and they sound open to letting use their yard for the event.

As most of you know the Museum has graciously allowed us to set up our event in front of the museum. We can bring out EZ-UP tents in case of rain. We will be providing cold cut sandwiches for those who would like them and discounted museum tickets.




The museums wagon display goes from May 23rd to October 12th.

BTW The Museum will be featuring our event in their newsletter and inviting all their members to look at our cars and join our event. Watch their web site for more information.

To be clear this is not to replace NY or FL just another event on the WF calendar.

The price for the tent at Seneca Lake State Park went up. It is reported to be bigger than before, but now $160.00 for the day. In the past it was $100.00

Just as an FYI for those of us living in the 51st state, Oct 10th falls on the Canadian Turkey day weekend which might prevent some of the Northern Wagon faithful from making the trip.

Ya i'd be down for this most likely. This time of year is also one of the best times to visit the park as they open it up for the evening and typically has a fraction of the attendance during the summer. Usually zero lines.

OK so to keep with the fall theme and avoid Turkey day for the Great White North, are there any objections to October 3rd?

I stopped by the Museum and let them know we would have a group coming in.  Numbers when we get closer would be great, but not going to worry about that just yet.  

So far they have told me the following:
- No charge to use their grass area in front of the museum
- There are box lunches available if we order ahead of time, I think they start at about $5
- They can do a "Birds Eye" photo for us from their scissor lift.  They stage the cars in front of the museum (in the grass loop) and get the cars and museum together.  Pretty cool keepsake.  There is a cost to this, I believe it was $150.  So if we have 10+ cars it might make sense, but we would need a prior commitment on this.  

Again just food for thought, more to come as we get past the Florida and New York events.

The internationally known Hershey Auto Show will be help the week/weekend after our date.  This was formerly a pre-WWII only show, but over the years they have opened up to "newer" cars.  It is known world wide for the swap meet.

Target date is now October 3rd.

Looks like it is shaping up. After WF Waterloo we can finalize all the details. But be thinking about a box lunch, they will provide it for a small fee. That would keep us all at the museum. I think we can get the photo taken with minimal notice.

If I don't go to the ISSCA Nationals....I would do this! My Bday is the 7th so this would be a nice treat. Lol! Good idea too.

My wife actually likes the idea of this trip...Maybe its a chocolate thing? Also this just in,MAJOR temperature drop in hell. Stay tuned for details.

I had a dream the other night that I was on my way too Wagon Fest and had to stop off at a shop for one reason or another and they were installing F**d parts on my OCC! They were turning it into a Mercury Grand Marquis, I think it was a dream turned into a nightmare!

Tim, in re-reading this thread, do we have confirmation on the exact date yet, 10/03 vs 10/10?

Many of us will need to put in for vacation time at work and confirmation would be helpful to the cause.

October 3rd is the date, the 10th is thanksgiving for our northern friends.

Thanks for clarification. That was the date I was hoping for as well.

Unfortunately, I won't make NY this year, with the wagon in bits. If I'm suitably road ready by then, I'd love to make this event. The assembly should start in about 5 weeks, so I ought to have plenty of time.

Whose ready for Hershey!!! After a great Wagonfest in New York I'm definitely looking forward to this!

I'll need a set of plugs and wires before then. Drove the wagon today for going to dinner, tomorrow is my brother's birthday, and went on a beer run after dinner. OCC drove pretty good, but probably not ready to go to Hershey.

Tim, any word on lodging yet? I note that there is both a Hampton inn and a Quality Inn right next door to the Museum. Can we get rates for the group? We are about at the 100 day window.

Great job Tim! As stated earlier you can count me in. I like the group photo idea, a nice photo of all the Wagons together is worth the couple extra bucks to me. I'm also agreeable to the boxed lunch particularly if it allows us all to hang out as a group and tell tales a little longer.

So some hotel information. Pricing comes from Google Maps on that weekend, I am sure a smart shopper can get better rates.

I know our day (OCT 3rd) falls between Fall Carlisle and the Hershey Car Show so you might want to book soon.

Since I'm a cheap bastard, I'd consider price over proximity. Realistically though, having the room nearby, and therefore whatever you forgot in the room also nearby is not a bad idea. Us old geezers forget stuff.

Spring Hill Suites is a Marriot Hotel, and list a rate of $149/night. If we can still get rooms at the Quality Inn for $85/night, we should jump on it NOW. You can reserve with a credit card and cancel later within 24 hrs with no penalty. $85 a night is comparatively cheap these days.

Did I mention I'll be there?

I got a room at the Quality reserved last night. At that point there were two rooms remaining at the $85/night and it was a single King accessible. So, as of now, there should be only one left, grab it!

Just for clarification: the main event is on Saturday, 3 October, and I assume that most folks will be staying over on Saturday night. Correct?

There is also a Howard Johnson's within 2 miles that has rooms for less than $80 on Hotels.com.

Note: the Quality Inn has some pretty sketchy reviews. Keep your expectations low.
