Is there any way to change the rear flex hose without taking the body off the frame? scratch

Yes. That style of connection was used for at least 40 years, and they are a pain to do. Long skinny arms, and lots of patience are a help. You need to knock out the spring clip, hold the hard line fitting, and unscrew the flex line. By feel, while your arms fall asleep. Without rounding off fittings. Easy!

I don't think I can do this laying on my back with the car on jack stands! Maybe if it were up on a lift... For now I am going to leave it be, the outside of the hose looks and feels OK and it's still nice and flexible. Of course who knows what the inside of it might be like!

I didn't think it was THAT bad to do the rear hose on my wagon (and it's rusty PA goodness underneath).

Jack stands, take the rear wheels off to give you more room to be flexible around it, and if I remember right I laid down on my stomach and faced the rear of the car and LOOKED at the upper end of the hose connection in the body of the car.

Use beer and penetrating oil. Drip some penetrating oil on the connections. Go back in the house for 2 days and have a beer (your call on how many). Then try to loosen the fittings.

If that does not work, you'll need The Thesaurus of Cuss Words handy.

I am pretty sure the lines/fittings will come apart without too much issue, there is very little rust under the car. It's just the actual reaching and getting too the fitting/line...
I'll give it another look and try.

When mine gets replaced a trusted garage will do the job.
