Picked up a 94 WB4 a few months ago. Chris and I decided to spend our Labor Day weekend having a little fun.

Not a great pic but before we started.

Body looks to be in good shape from what can be seen of the pics. If it's in as good shape as it seems, are you tearing down to restore or parting out.

Seriously... Why on Earth would you cut up such a clean car? Was it stolen? All it looked like was the core support and fenderwells were "rough" but pretty clean for a car up this way...

*shrug?*

What's the story?

you cut it up be cause you needed the pillar for the caprice??
what a shame,. i could have cut the 1a2 pillar out for you,. and made you a deal on that whole car,. jeez you southern boys are wasteful,.infact you could have had the whole 1a2 white body,. all the doors, pillars, parts you needed,.
damn shame,.
a wb4 too,.you call that labour day fun? killing a perfectly good wb4? to save a shitty old caprice? just because the caprice is a 96? meh,.
you two oughta be kicked off the forum,.

Really? Parting out a wagon is a crime? Getting body panels that are not rusted as heck is wrong?

This wagon was for sale on E-bay... and no one wanted it. It has rust issues, engine is blown...and brake lines are rotted out and busted.

Mike bought it and $$ the money to have it shipped here for parts. Which is what this wagon is good for. You guys can hem and haw and saw "oh why did you part that out...I would have bought it and fixed it...bla bla bla bla"

Mike offered up my '96 and again...no one wanted it. If I didn't buy it...it would have had the same fate as this one.

Not every wagon can be fixed up. We gotta get parts from somewhere. This is where they come from. No, this wagon was not bought to fix up his '96 Caprice Wagon. Some parts will go there though, as well as countless other wagons both here on the forum and elsewhere.

I mean really?

Why don't you hackers unhook the fuel line hoses from the sending unit so you don't bend them all caddywampus and render it unusable. A new sending unit is worth almost $300 alone.

yeah it is when they come from a pretty decent wb4,

motor is easy to swap, brakelines are nothing,.except to spoilt southern boys,.that take everything apart with open end wrenches,

there's a ton of ratty old tbi cars out there,. and as i said i have a white 1a2 body thats rust free for the parts that were needed,.
Just look at the floor pans on that car,. you ought to spend some time up here,. then you,d appreciate the cars down there more,.

say what you want,. but next time you guys decide to kill Twisted Evil a decent wb4 car,. don't post it to this forum so i gotta watch it,.just do it and keep it to yourselves don't brag about it to guys that live in the rust belt,.or to guys that have tbi cars that are dying for an lt1 car,.
I thought this forum was all about saving these cars,. not cannibalizing the better ones,.

Meh,.hope you had a ball,.

I'll be looking for an Olds custom cruiser now,. just so i can put it in a derby,.

Nick...I mean...really? lol

I'm not gonna argue with you. I think you are half joking...and half not. No offense, but I have done quite a bit to these wagons. I know the work involved and have swapped engines, installed all new lines...yes I know it can be done.

Yup, I had a great time. It was a lot of hard work and many good parts were saved. The whole car would have been crushed Nick. I guess you would rather that happen though.

I hope you find your OCC Smile Take pics/vid of the derby!!

yeah really,. next time keep it to your selves,.don't brag about it to the whole world, cars like that aren't even available up here,.in driving form let alone fixer uppers,.
it reminds me of cash for clunkers,.how everybody was horrified at perfectly decent cars being killed,.
you guys are no better,. go buy up all the cheap tbi wood grain cars n cut them up,.
an lt1 wb4?

and for the record i,m not joking in the slightest,. it sickens me,.
i certainly don't have the same respect for guys that i did,.

Was this the one that was for sale in the DC Metro area awhile back? If so, I remember seeing it and thinking it was pretty rough. If that's the case, I'm glad you guys "saved" it.

Neutral Suspect

No one wanted it? Or no could afford it?

Rust issues? That car is a lot cleaner than most "nice ones" up north, including mine.

Please guys,I am Alabama born and raised in the south but I also very strongly agree with Nick concerning
the dismantleling of that beautiful wagon. The wagon belongs to Mike and its his to do with as he pleases.
Chris I seem to remember another wagon with blown brake lines and a huge amount of rust!Did you ever
think about parting that one out?Compared to your wagon this car had no rust at all just a little crust.

There will always be things we do in our youth that we will hugely regret in our old age and this will be
what you guys remember and regret the most often!
I wish I could have said it better but Nick beat me to it.

Jim, I appreciate your thoughts...but you did not see the wagon in person. I did. This wagon was a bucket compared to mine. My floors and body were undercoated and very nice actually. But yeah...if I didn't buy it...Mike would have parted it out. That's what he bought it for.

OK? Rolling Eyes

The pictures don't tell the whole story...it is not as good as the pictures suggest.

My intentions were to post up some pics of MIKE'S wagon as we took it apart for LT1 WAGON PARTS.

Not getting all these negative comments honestly. I do regret posting the pics now though. Obviously it was too much for you guys.

Mike can chime in on more details if he wants...since this was his wagon. But I am not gonna loose any sleep over it, that is the truth.

Chris

drama... sheesh

I saw the ebay pictures of this thing and it was no prize. Mike bid a few hundred bucks for it and that was the only bid. The bare minimum bid. That's it. Nobody else bid. Everyone had a chance & nobody wanted it so now some folks will get a few nice parts to save cars that are much nicer. Nobody yells when we pull parts off a junkyard car & that's where this was headed. Instead, Mike can sell the parts directly to the community if he chooses and make sure they get use instead of crushed.

Chris, thank you for all of your help. I couldn't have done all of this without it. This is the first LT1 wagon I've parted so we both learned a bit from it and the first one the body has been completely removed.

As to you complainers. Wow, just wow.

Next time a "decent" one comes up on ebay it had better be in your driveway at the end otherwise, shut up. Parts from this car have already gone into three Roadmasters not counting Chris's or mine.

Could it have been saved? Sure but so could so many cars we see at salvage yards all the time. I don't seem to recall anyone at WagonFest events complaining to Fred when he opened up his parts to those who needed them. Where do you think those came from?

I will be posting a thread of parts available for sale or free. Most of it Chris and I are keeping, but there are some parts available.

sure fred got complaints about the scavengers,.busting stuff up,. and that was a few years ago at the crest of wagons for sale,.things are way different now,.
as for saving cars at the salvage yards,. you ever try to buy one? ever come across a complete car?
Bottom line is its your money your car,. next time don't bother posting the pics,.that car was way too decent to be a parts car,.as i said us rust belt guys don't see decent cars very often,.you guys have no idea what a rusty car is or how to work on one, or how to save one either,.
i looked for a car recently,(last week) if i,d been given the chance i,d likely have made you a deal, including bringing you a couple of parts cars,.seems like there's a lot of private stuff going on behind the scenes, but the aftermath is made public,.
I,m sure the return on your investment will be well worth it,.
Meh,.glad you had "fun"

Mike & Chris,

I must say that as I watched this thread unfold from the first set of photos, I did wonder what was so wrong with the car that it needed to be dismantled.

While it's likely no one here truly begrudges you for parting out that wagon, it's probably safe to say that your delivery had a hand in causing the backlash you are now receiving. You come in with no warning, throw a hand grenade into the room, and then wonder why everyone is questioning "WTF just happened?" when you check back in.

The fact that it didn't occur to you to prepare us for what was happening beforehand goes a long way to describing why you don't seem to understand why some here are a bit concerned about dismantling a LT1 WB4 that at least in the photos appears to be a very serviceable piece.

Look at the pics in this post of what most here would consider a nice example of a southern wagon, and then compare them to the pics of the one you parted.

https://gmlongroof.4umer.com/paint-and-body-f30/i-am-heartbrokenrust-t1329.htm

I notice that both of you were concerned enough to comment regarding the corrosion damage / repair work in that thread.

It's great that you were able to save some parts from the crusher, and hopefully more than a few wagons will benefit from your efforts. But have some respect for those of us that live in the northern climes where rust a a real concern, to at least say "Hey, we scored this POS 94 RMW on eBay that nobody wanted 'cause it had this, this, and this wrong wth it. We're going to part it out as there is no reason to save this particular one and use the parts to save these cars here, here, and here".

OK, you might have a had some people asking if that was really a good idea, or some offers to trade / resell it, but that would be the extent of it.

We are kind of a disfunctional extended family here, with all of the miscommunication & petty arguing that goes with it. But try to remember how some of us are going to perceive it next time. Not every B- body can - or should - be saved, but it hurts when we see one of our own destroy something apparently nicer than what we are trying to keep running.

- J
