Here is a thought, Jarrod just sugested to me that I could back light them port holes....euro style lane change turn indicators? or just a dim blue glow? or should there be one light per ventiport that lights up with each corresponding spark plug like was done in 1947 by one of buick's designers so he could monitor how well his ignition was working. When Harley Earl seen that 47 buick in the staff parking lot one morning the buick ventiports were born.....that would be a bit over my electrical skills I think
The answer is "inductive pick-up". A small coil that surrounds the individual spark plug leads should produce enough power to fire one or more LEDs. Have an older spark plug tester that I picked up, I think at Princess Auto, that uses the same principle. Will try to remember to bring it down to WF. If you can find the right coil, it would just be a matter of wiring.
Having said all that, even at idle, it is unlikely that you would see the individual flashes. Maybe a slight strope effect. Still it would be a quick reference to see if you had a misfire.

tail gate emblems, where and how subtle do I go?
Idea number simply the five raised chrome letters that spell out buick on the middle of the belt line trim at the bottom of the tailgate
Idea number with the Roadmaster scrip on the left edge of the belt line trim and the buick scrip on the right with a buick tri sheild emblem
Keep in mind that I'm using the 95-96 sedan front door belt line trim with the Roadmaster scrip embosed in them on the front doors

Check out my new nameplate for the rear. I got it off the 2008 Lucerne door sill. It'll look good for now, but next year my bumper mod will be very unique and never seen before.

What about just using the Buick letter and shield on rear belt trim...no Roadmaster on the left part. I like that...but combined it might be too much. Dunno...plus you do have Roadmaster on the doors!
Also, that Lucerne door sill is crazy! Can't wait to see both wagons all put together!!!

Pat i've been thinking about your emblem ordeal all morniing and here's what one of my plans were, how about you get the word "ROADMASTER" beadblasted into the tail gate molding and do it off center? That will be very subtle and will look good. I was going to do this to my car door moldings but got ahead of myself and mounted all my moldings and forgot about my ideal. Looks good Pat the fest is getting closer and closer every day.
Thanks Chris. I am equally excited to see what Pat's final look will be.

Keep it up Pat would love to see the beast at wagonfest done or not. Wish you were closer or I was closer, but I would come help you finish it.
Being closer to you would be one of the only reasons to live in easter Ontario again, I have way too many relatives in your area if you know what I mean.... Take care of that injury you sustained, and I'll try to use your down time to catch up....

still blocking but I hope to have it in paint by the week end....fresh coat of primer for now and a bit more blocking, the skirts are far from straight.....
Oh and Tom I just got the seals for the skirts so I'm going to have to re work them so the seals will fit and work as they should.

I had just finished spraying the primer, I had no intentions last night to wait and watch it dry I just wanted to take the few quick pictures then go home to bed.... so what you are looking at isn't a shadow or dent, it's wet primer

Soon, takes forever to mask off one of these wagons.... masking is one of my least favourite things about bodywork.....
the next time you see this wagon it will be all one glossy colour......

Exciting Pat love to see progress as usual I only have my hood left to do. Did some interior work and brake work yesterday then had to call it quits because the leg started to ache something fierce. Can't wait to see your ride finished.

now the long 24 hour wait before I can cut and buff, followed by the wood grain application....
you may have noticed that I've painted the gas flap and door handle surounds black, thats so it will blend with the new wood grain.

The wood grain isn't black, the one I'm using has a black base unlike the OEM wood grain that has a translusent base. the wood grain that I'm using is the wood grain that is in my avatar witht he Quebec "Bonjour" plate and the 1950 buick trunk emblem.

thanks Chris, but I'm still on edge about the progress. I hope to feel better once the wood grain is applied, that is a tricky task, and could go bad real fast and get expensive too.....Thus far I am happy with the results, there are some issues, and areas that could have used more work, but then again I'm not Frank or Gerry....

Looking gooooood! it doesn't matter what the car looks like when done in my opinion (sure it wil look good) but it's the fact that you took a car that was badly rusted and brought her back from the edge of death to keep her on the road. That is why I am looking forward to seeing it. It's your blood sweat and tears that impresses me. Anyone can take a car that is in nice shape and clean it up more, and make it look new again, so that's nothing in my book. I know speaking from experience that I don't have lots of money to buy a real nice car to start with, so both you and I start with what we got. What you are doing is dedication and dam hard work. I applaud you for it. hell I don't even consider my car a lot of work when I see what you are doing. Keep it up your efforts will be rewarded once we all see it.

I believe he said the roof was in good shape so it didn't need any paint work.
Pat i just looked at the post over on the ISSF site where you put up a picture of your woodgrain, well in my opinion I would rethink your choice of color around the door handles before applying the woodgrain. I personally would use the lighter color so it will blend in more, JMHO. Unless of course you are looking for contrast, then I am wrong.

AMEN! It will look awesome...and I have no doubt. I saw the pic on ISSF too and it makes me feel better about my little rust spot on the Wagon I got. You have done so much on this wagon!! Your wagon (and Roady-man's wagons) are a big part of why I am coming to WagonFest. Not to nit pick...but to admire and dream I know my project will not go this fast.
