| A little noisier than I would have liked, but they are in. They were used and had some funny wear marks on them, so I am not surprised they make a little noise. The right peddle now does more now!! | |

| With Tim, it just might go up. He'll be too busy driving it lightly to convince himself it isn't a hot rod. |

| So I now have a pretty bad vibration at 75+ MPH. What changed? Driveshaft is spinning faster than it was before, but I never got any of this up to 100+ mph before. Might he have installed the driveshaft in backwards? Does it make a difference? Can the gears cause a vibration? | |

| Tim, over the years on several of these forums, I've spotted notes about drive shaft vibration occurring after gear ratio changes. Can't say I understand what changed to cause it either. but it is not uncommon. | |

| Your going to have to have the drive shaft balanced, but your going to have to tell the guy doing the balancing, that it is a hot rod.... built for high speed sales calls. Aluminum might help too... SSR shaft fit the wagons?

Mike I do have that driveshaft......hmmmmm. I really want that in the Impala. Was looking for a second shaft, but it has not come through. I have a local shop that will rebuild, balance, make a new shaft for me if needed. I will bring it up to them when I can. Meanwhile I can put the aluminum one on to see if that solves the problem. - phantom 309 wrote:

nick My though to Nick. I think the installer may have flipped the shaft. I hose clamp is a great idea, but where do you start and how do you know which way to turn it?

where the weight is welded on,. i usually start opposite the weight,.make a chalk mark for your starting point, run the car,. take a screw driver and ramps with you,. rotate the weight 90 deg, see if it,s better or worse,. repeat as necessary,. ..gets a bit tedious, i still have the steel shaft in the 6 spd car,.it drives thru the vibration after 50mph,. Nick I will flip it first and if that does not help I will try the clamp. Thanks Nick!!

| Flipped the driveshaft this morning. It had marks on it (white paint marker) as to indicate it was backwards. Will report back..... | |

| So I re-programmed my speedometer and changed most of my shift points on the tranny. Pretty cool stuff.
I also think I found the quirky rev in the motor after 2-3 shifts. The shift points between up shift an down shift at a particular throttle position overlapped by 1 mph the wrong direction. Hopefully it is gone now.
Motor is still running pretty rich, so there is more mileage to get.

| Lost the worst of it with the flip. There is still a very fine high frequency one. I will eventually get it balanced.

Just got started with the 30day trial of tuner cat. Also use data master to log, again the trial version.

| Worst tank so far was 15.6 MPG. Tonight was 17.66 with fairly aggressive highway stuff at 62-75 MPH and in traffic letting them know it is me!! I think old lady driving will get me 19-20 so not to awful bad. Gotta keep it at 65 and below and get some pills for my chronic 3.73 foot. | |

| Tonight it took 18.xx gallons and change to fill it after 306 miles. 16.65 MPG... Not great.
I did notice it is running at 203-205* fahrenheit. Maybe a new thermostat is needed. Considering my spedo used to be off my 10% I really have not lost much. But my mileage still stinks. I need to swap the O2's as well.
