WagonFest Mid-Atlantic - Details

In borrowing Joel's idea for a single informational thread about events, places to stay, etc, I'll keep this thread locked. If you see something that's wrong or would like something added, send me a PM. We'll continue to use the other thread for general discussion, ideas and such.

What: WagonFest Mid-Atlantic
Where: Front Royal, Virginia
When: Friday and Saturday, 21-22 October 2011

Schedule of Events -

Friday:
Hang out and mini-mod day and Mike's home.
5pm Informal cruise to dinner at Spelunkers

Saturday:
10am – 4pm WagonFest Mid-Atlantic, Shelter #1 at Gertrude E. Miller Park
(drinks and snacks will be available during the day, no lunch meal planned)

Take US 522/340 South towards Front Royal
Bear left in town, staying on 522/340
Turn left at the first light on 522 (340 continues straight)
Turn left at second intersection onto East 8th Street
Make first left onto Stadium Drive
Pavilion 1 is on the left just past Bing Crosby Stadium (on right)

In town
Depending on your location, find your way to US522 and take it north into town
Turn right onto East 8th Street, it's just past Marlow Motors (Chrysler/Dodge dealer)
Make first left onto Stadium Drive
Pavilion 1 is on the left just past Bing Crosby Stadium (on right)

Points South via US 340
Take 340 North into town, at John Marshall Highway (US 55) turn right and stay in the left lane
Turn left onto US 522 North
Turn right onto East 8th Street, it's just past Marlow Motors (Chrysler/Dodge dealer)
Make first left onto Stadium Drive
Pavilion 1 is on the left just past Bing Crosby Stadium (on right)

Points South via US 522
Take US 522 North into town and remain on this road for a bit

This isn't an exhaustive list as there are many smaller independent hotels/motels in and near Front Royal. Most camp locations are independent as well. TripAdvisor (link below) lists some of the smaller ones. There are also many hotels along the I-81 corridor and in Winchester with travel times to Front Royal varying.

Canoeing and rafting allong the Shenandoah river is a popular attraction in Front Royal, these are the two main Canoe businesses. Both are open through the end of October.

The Blue Ridge Parkway begins as Skyline Drive in Front Royal and winds it's way along the Blue Ridge mountains through North Carolina. Entry is priced per car at $15 for a six day pass (annual pass available)

Underground caverns are common along the Blue Ridge mountains. Two of them are within a 30-45 minute drive of Front Royal.

Virginia boasts one of the largest wine making industries in the US (4th or 5th top producer of wine). The vast majority of Virginia's wineries are “farm wineries” which are defined (among other things) as producing 5,000 cases or less per year. The Shenandoah valley is home to many of these small wineries most of which are open for tastings.
