My 92 caprice wagon has 3" drop springs and tho it looks killer I am thinking it might be benifishal to lift it up a bit. The roads around me suck and I scrape pulling in the driveway every now and again. I would like to end up somewere inbetween the 3" drop springs and stock ride hight. Was thinking about useing SS springs all the way around but have searched and found some saying that the rears will not work on a wagon. Is it because of the added waight of the wagon and it will sag in the back end? Would 9c1 rear springs in the rear and SS springs in the front level it out? Is there any other sugestions to get a little more lift with out spending alot of money on aftermarket springs? Any help would be greatly appreceated!

The SS springs are going to compress slightly more on the wagon, but they will fit. The SS springs are about one inch drop from a stock heigth. The rears may be a little more. If you want something in the middle for the front, you could cut about a half coil off of the front SS springs to get the front a little lower in comparison to the rears. The half coil will give you about 1 inch more drop than the stock SS springs (you can not cut the rears). You should check your camber after the mod. It will go positive from where you are now. If you are at 00 degrees camber now, you should add about .060 shims to all four points. If you are running a large amount of negative camber, you will have less, but may still have to take shims out of the stacks. If you have never changed the shim stacks, you should remove .120 thickness from each stack at 2 inches of drop.

I have a set of 2 inch drop springs all around, and they were for a sedan. I also have drop spindles , and I put a spacer in the front to give me a little more ground clearance, because I had the same problem you do with a 4 inch drop. It now has a nice rake, and clears almost everything.

Thanks for the reply Fred, I didn't even think of cutting down the fronts to compinsate for any negative rake. And my wagon doesn't drag too awful much but it does hit the bump stops quit a bit on a bad piece of road, thats what really is bothering me. The spindles are probably the ticket tho, might have to look in to that as well.
I kind of wanted to do an alignment anyway but I think I'm going to do new wheels and tires too, think I'll round up a set of springs or spindles and do it all at once. If anyone else has any other ideas I would love to hear them as well. Thanks again Fred1

Did you cut down your bump stops? Mine have the tapered part cut off.

You really need 16 inch or larger wheels if you are going to use drop spindles. The lower shock end will hit the ground before the wheel will with 2 inch drop spindles I have a gouged up lower shock end to prove it.

If you get wide tires, the camber will be extremely important. You can buy a magnetic universal mount camber/caster gauge on ebay for about $100 new, and less used. Then you can check your camber on any flat surface parking lot in about 20 minutes. If you have an FSM, you can take the measurements and convert them into shim changes to get directly to your correct settings, in one shot.

Good info fred! Yes I have 20s on it now but think I'm going to put 17's on it soon. I think the bump stops are stock and If I still have a problem after I lift it up a bit I'll adress them. I also read somewere that zq8 bump stops Have been used insted of cutting stock ones and I just so hapen to have one to look at in the driveway. Cool
