Stupid Electical Question- 12v Rotating Light

I have a 12v teardrop rotating light, like this:



Couple months ago I dropped it and broke the bulb... NBD, tracked down a bulb and ordered it. Drop the new bulb in, go to plug it in, lights up for literally a split second and pops the fuse and shuts off. Put in new fuse, same issue. Change plugs, same issue. Plug it in without bulb, works fine. So now I'm thinking its a bad/wrong bulb. But the p/n was the same as the old one. Any ideas?

Bulb matches but the socket is shorting out against something.Take apart the light and check the wiring for any breaks.

Well that was bad...

Checked all my wires, nothing out of the ordinary. Made a slight adjustment to a wire that looked like it was rubbing. Plug it in. Wisp of smoke from the motor and a blown fuse. That's not good...

Nothing thankfully. It was an old Dietz my father had from plowing in the 80's/90's

Well, all I can tell you is that it's a simple machine.
It should be easy to study it closely and trace out the issue.
We aren't there, and it's too small to take usable photographs of.
Fix it, or ditch it.
