| While my oldest kiddo was in the back of the wagon doing his first-ever speaker install, I decided to tackle adding the two additional horns I pulled from a junker Roady sedan to give my new OCC the 4-note "tugboat" horn conversion. I knew there had been a battery leak in the past, but when I pulled out the battery...it was a mess. I really need to get a new tray...it's not rusted through, but it was pretty gross. I took the tray out and took a wire brush to it, and then did the same with the area below the tray. After that I hung the battery tray from a tree and taped off under the hood, and shot both with some thick anti-rust paint. I had to let that all dry, so will finish adding the horns tomorrow. I'll most likely get a better tray from the salvage yard on one of my next trips, but for now at least it's all scraped and painted down there. More tomorrow! -Mike | |

| That rust pic kept me up last night....JEEZ! Wow.
My Carolina Cruiser has more surface rust under it here and there than my Texas Roady did, but nothing is rusted through. That battery tray is the worst thing on my car. It's still solid, was just ugly.
Now that it's painted and the battery is back in, it looks fine. If you pull the battery out you can tell that I sanded and painted it...but it's not weak at all.
Oh that rust pic...wow. Salt SUCKS!!!

| Mike, what size bolt did you use to mount the extra horns? | |

I used the stock bolt I pulled off the car in the salvage yard when I pulled the horns. Holes are already in the fender there behind the battery. Just bolt them in, run the wire along the stock loom on the rad support, and splice into the driver's side horn wire. Done.

I got the horns from a friend.

| I want to do this horn conversion. I saw a roady in the JY here but the pass front was hit so bad it broke the horns. We don't know what battery trays are here in New England. | |
