| Help please.
My stock radio with cassette player has problems.
Put a cassette in to play, and it wouldn't play at all.
Ejected it and now it still thinks it has a cassette inserted. Keeps changing direction until it gives up and turns off.
Can't play the radio or anything.
Anyway, how do you get this sucker out?
I pulled the dash down to reveal two screws on the bottom of the radio that look like they hold the unit it, but it won't budge.
I've looked around the forums, but don't see any posts on removing this particular unit.
Anyone got any suggestions?
Many thanks,
Marty in Georgetown SC | |

| There is a third screw in the center at the bottom - You have to remove the entire dash surround if the OCC is set up the same way as the Roadmasters - The vent covers and the wood dash plate are one unit, it all has to come out at once if I remember correctly. | |

| Thanks for the quick reply fellow Sandlapper! I'll go see if I can find that extra screw.
Getting the whole dash out looks like a challenge.

| Your cassette problem is probably just a broken belt; that's what mine did. New drive belt fixed everything. There are 2 tough parts of the repair: 1. Not dropping any of the small screws and 2. figuring out how the stupid belt is supposed to go on. I ordered mine here: http://www.kenselectronics.com/lists/belts.htmThey were great to deal with and I thought their prices were great, too. | |

| Ok, got the dash off and stashed it in the back of the car. The wife will freak but she'll get over it.
Got the radio out now that the 3rd recessed/hidden screw it out.
You guys are incredible!
I'll take the radio apart and see if the belt is the problem. Thanks for the tip.
I'm also thinking about putting in a new double DIN system.
Any suggestions, hints, warnings? Anyone done this on this/similar model? | |

| The radio is a 1.5 DIN. A Panasonic DEH-P77DH, or DEH-P75DH is a great replacement. It is a CD player with one AM and 3 FM selections, containing 6 saved stations I picked one up on ebay for about $75 (if you are patient, and cheap like me). If it does not have the manual, I can assist you with the wiring, and mounting instructions (requires rubber washers, and long screws on clips to mount to the plastic frame). I am more than satisfied with both of my stereos. Getting them used on ebay is about 1/6 or less of the cost of a new one. I even found a good one in a junk yard for $25. | |

| I'll have to setup an alert on Ebay for those models. None available now or on Amazon.
Thanks for setting me straight on the DIN 1.5 Fred. I was about to run off half cocked.
Looks like I might need a new unit, which is fine with me, as I rather have CD/MP3 and all that.
My stock cassette deck was full of tightly wound tape around the rubber drive wheel that took forever to get off, plus some of the metal was bent. It looks like it's toast. Still not working after several hours of tinkering.
Thanks to everyone for their help.

| If you want a unit with a good tape unit, but bad amp for one channel, You can have it for $25 shipped. Send me a pick of yours and I will compare it (I have a 91 and 92, and forget which one is which...they are not exactly the same). jfkiehl@ij.net | |

| I replaced the stock cassette in my '92 OCC with a used Alpine 1.5 din. Actually two, the first one had a bad amp and a dim face...the 2nd one is PERFECT and I love it. Neither have been made in a while but I found both on Craigslist, the first in LA and the second in Wisconsin. Searched on Zoomthelist.com for them. They do pop up on Ebay now and then but the folks on there seem to think they are gold-plated. I paid under $100 for both the ones I bought, including shipping. Pioneer also made 1.5 din radios...they look a little cheesier than the Alpines, but are good units. I had one in my '93 S-10 years back and it was a solid unit. And I agree about pulling the dash on these cars, it's much harder on an OCC than it was on my '96 Roady....a lot more to take loose, but once you do it a few times you get to know the tricks. I did a write-up on my Alpine here: https://gmlongroof.4umer.com/t7246-disco-radio-15-din-alpine?highlight=disco+radio-Mike
