| Is that normal? I had assumed it was my new wheels rubbing (17x8.5, 5" backspacing), but when I got new-to-me tires today in 235/55 17 I looked and noticed that the rims were fine. The tires had some marks, but not many. I could go about 1.5 turns of the wheel before they rubbed against the bar.
Isn't that the stock SS size? Do those rub too? Was talking on the phone (I think to Ian?) and he mentioned that some guys complain of that.
How strange. |

| It's normal. Even with 235/70r15 theres a shiny spot on my sway bar. At full lock maneuvering speed, the wheel hops in my wagon because it rubs so damn bad.

| That's weird. Wasn't 235/70 the stock size for some of these wagons too?

Ditto with 235-55-17s on imp rims. Rubbed on both Grimace and the blue car. only on full lock u-turn mode | |

| Odd. No rub on mine with these new 235/55 17s even at full lock. According to ISSF, SS wheel backspace is 5.04" (quoting Navy Lifer; so he's probably right), and these new wheels are 5". I know the rears of these cars are said to sometimes not be square... maybe true of the front? Then again, according to CompNine my car was built September 18, 1991. ...and it WAS a Wednesday. |

| It's normal at full lock on some of them, but not all. Gotta love gm quality control. Lol. Weird cuz my 9.5's don't rub anywhere. But they have 5.5bs. And 235/70's were available, on the sedans at least... | |

| I know the Impala SS tires rub 255 55 17 a lot from the factory. | |

| *years later* just got a new wagon and mine was rubbing with the stock tires and wheels.. I put 18's on and it's mostly my pass. Side rubbing.. My buddy said maybe the steering stop. Don't know what or where it's located.. But their has to be a way to stop this rubbing? | |

| The stops are just a tab of metal bolted on the lower control arm. | |
