| Many of you have seen the posts here and and on the impalassforum from gwturbo. That is Glen West from St Augustine, Florida. Glen died suddenly Thursday. His sons had a gathering of those who knew Glen at his house today. I asked if I could let the forum family know and they said yes.
Glen was like a brother as well as a dear friend. A couple of old guys, we enjoyed sharing the history of our 66 years, with birthdays in July and August, only a bit over 3 weeks apart. Was looking forward to #67 with him this year. He would call up to check on me, and I on him. We'd planned a junk yard run today. Instead I went with fellow wagon buddy Kevin Wilson, (Keltz) to a gathering at Glen's house with his family.
Many of you know Glen's ready wit and easy smile. He will be missed. When he'd drop by the house, one cat particularly liked him and would get on top of his wagon so they could talk face to face.
Glen is the only true Floridian I've known and one fine human being.
Here's the corrected spelling local obit (you'll have to follow the link to view the vintage photo): http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/timesunion/obituary.aspx?n=glenn-west&pid=164336199&fhid=12938#fbLoggedOut Glenn Hall West, 66, passed away suddenly in Jacksonville April 18th, 2013. He was born on August 4, 1946 to Wade and Lita West. Glenn is survived by three sons Cary, Jason, Copeland, and his sister, Ruth. He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 brothers, Hugh, Roy, Paul, and Kenneth. Glenn served his country for a number of years in the United States Air force. He loved his family and always put them before anything else. Glenn was a funny man who loved a good joke and always had one to fire back at you. He loved fast cars, the smell of nitrous-oxide, and anything involving racing. He also loved to work on his own cars and was always eager to help any friend or family member with theirs. Glenn loved Florida State football! He loved the game of golf and even though he wasn't very good, he always came back to fight another day on the course. He was a terrible singer and that was made known to anyone who had to painfully listen. Glenn never had a good hair day. But, he was quite the chef and was praised for his famous peach cobbler and oyster dressing. He loved southern comfort food and his belly was usually the indicator. But more than anything, Glenn loved his 3 boys. He always showed love and support in any possible way that he could. All of his pride was in them. In lieu of a formal service, we are asking family and friends to join us on Sunday, April 21, to celebrate Glenn s love of life at his home. 5000 Datil Pepper Rd. St. Augustine, FL. Craig Funeral Home, Crematory, and Memorial Park is in charge of arrangements.

I have a photo of Glen from a road trip we made back in June of 2011 when we went to visit Dal Slabaugh in Ohio but could not insert it. Hair and mustache are shorter & white. Still the great smile though. (Well, both the vintage photo and mine would be here if this had a true cut 'n paste feature. Maybe later.) Richard Snipes 4501 Safari in Jax, FL

| Agreed, this sucks!
He was a generous man as he offered both his garage (lift) AND his AAA plus to get my disabled car to his house so we could replace the fuel pump. I opted to drag the carcass home.....
You will be missed. | |

You'll be missed, Glen. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and his many friends.

| Glenn was a great guy. One of the most laid back guys and a gentleman through and through. Although I only met him a handful of times, I felt like I always knew him. When my family and I headed to Florida a few years ago, he met us off of 95 at a diner for a bite to eat. He insisted on buying dinner for the lot. We then proceeded to mess with my air filter before getting down the road. [/URL] The last time a saw him was in Front Royal at the WF Mike put on. I bought my Z28 cluster from Glen at that event. I spoke to him just a couple of weeks ago, as he was starting to collect T56 parts. He will be missed greatly! | |

| I just saw a cross post on FB. very surprised and saddened by this news. Glenn was a great guy and the past two years of WF Florida did a lot of things behind the scenes to help pull it all together with logistics, etc. I will definitely miss talking with him whether it was cars or good natured ribbing about college football. Both of us fans of rival teams we new some 'football history' to pull out and throw into a conversation at the appropriate times for a laugh.
Richard, please pass my condolences on to his family...

| Thanks for posting the photos and the kind words. I'll pass this along to his sons. Glen was a great guy and a true friend. It was always a joy to talk cars, politics, life with him. I personally feel a great loss. He did go the way we had talked about not so long ago. We shared the piece Roger Ebert wrote about his impending death. It is rare to find someone with whom you can talk about such things. I do not fear death: http://www.salon.com/2011/09/15/roger_ebert/Richard Snipes | |

| Just checking back in to see how folks are doing with the news on Glen. The response is quite heart lifting. I spoke with the family yesterday. They have visited both forums and expressed thanks. I believe they can be proud of the high regard held for Glen.
I still expect him to call or email. We had so much more to talk about.
The photo header is a fine honor. Well done!

| I am newer to this forum and never had the honor of meeting him. He seems to have great respect from this community. It is always difficult when someone passes. But please, remember all the great times you all had with him. It's amazing how great cars can introduce us to great people. Glenn sounded like one for sure. | |

| I'm so sad to hear that. I met up with Glen at several of our wagon shows, and we'd always talk shop for a while. Glen always made it a point to seek out the 'ol regulars and have a nice chat; I always looked forward to it. He was very enthusiastic about wagons, for sure! He will be missed, and remembered fondly. That banner is a nice way of honoring his memory. | |

| I'd like to take a moment this morning to remember my friend Glen West, gwturbo on this and the impalassforum. Glen's been gone a year today and I know I miss him and probably some other folks do as well. Take a moment to appreciate his memory. I believe as long as someone can remember us we live again for that fleeting moment.
Glen was a great guy. If you have a story, add to the thread. His obit link is set to disappear on the 20th. They got the photo up of Glen on our June 2011 trip to see Dal. (It's the one on this thread of him standing by my '95 wagon.)
Kinda appropriate for Easter Sunday I reckon.

| I certainly didn't know Glen near as well as Richard, I knew him for 4 or 5 years; we crossed paths quiet a few times. He was such a pleasant guy to be around, he made me feel like I knew him almost as long as Richard. We all missed him at our FL meet. One of my favorite memories of Glen was at the WF in NY. He and his buddy Ben drove there from FL. I think he did it in 2 days, which was grueling. I caught a good picture of them sleeping in chairs. I didn't tell him about and then posted it on the forums. He got a pretty good chuckle out of it. Guys, scroll up and read all the notes from the guys from a year ago. Tom PS, Richard got your #, one of these days, I'll give you a call. Tom Ben and Glen Glen and Myself | |
